Just to be clear, McSweeney is not running for re-election.
McLaughlin is unopposed in the upcoming Republican primary, but the Dems have until the summer to slate an opponent if they wish.
Picard, don’t get hoisted on your rainbow flag’s petard.
A Scotsman with a shamrock and green.
Valeurs, the Language Police, Archaic Division, are looking for you for butchering that metaphor.
Martin makes me laugh.
I try.
That petard nonsense is so often misused by people trying to be smarty pants with it, it makes me vomit my word salad.
To be”hois’d by one’s petard” means to be blown up by one’s own explosive (i.e. done in by one’s own trick or ruse).
A petard is a small explosive used in Shakespeare’s time to blow open a door.
Linguists argue about the meaning of “hois’d” as it appears in Shakespeare, but the consensus is that is means to be blown into the air, an archaic meaning of the root of “hoist” as we use it today.
Don’t get me started on “beg the question.”
Please clear all posts in advance with Martin.
IL Blows, the green shamrock is because McGonigals’ pub is Irish.
Please don’t.
