IL-14: Second Congressional Candidates Forum Tomorrow Night

Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Avenue, Batavia, a Candidates Meet and Greet at 6:30 pm and Candidate Forum at 7 pm

The second public debate among the seven Republican candidates for the 14th district is scheduled in Batavia to begin at 7PM at the Batavia City Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 for a Meet & Greet.

The event is being hosted by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Central Kane County, and cosponsored by the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, the LWV of Naperville and the Aurora Area LWV.

The Thursday forum will be a combined event divided into two hours:

  • Congressional forum
  • Combined state legislative forum for the 25th legislative district, 49th and 65th representative district

Compared with the McHenry County Republican Party debate last week which went a little over two hours, Thursday night’s scheduled forum for congressional candidates will last a little more than an hour.

While that is incredibly brief compared with last week, another factor is at work.

As predicted on McHenry County Blog, this tweet from Daily Herald reporter James Fuller on Saturday could be true:

It is unknown which of the three congressional candidates have not confirmed their participation in Thursday’s forum.

The two state senators do have the spring session of the General Assembly taking place in Springfield, which could, either accidentally or purposely, prevent the participation of State Senators Jim Oberweis and Sue Rezin.

Unknown which candidate could possibly be the 3rd who may not participate. And, this waiting to confirm could simply be posturing.

According to the Illinois Press Association Suburban Chronicle, the forums will be recorded by Batavia Access TV and available online afterwards.

Whether there will be a live stream is unknown.
