U.S. Senate Votes to Add 12th National Holiday–Juneteenth

Eleven days off for Federal employees was not enough for the United States Senate.

Without objection, Senators approve a holiday June 19th, with government closed the next Monday, if that date comes on a weekend.

It’s called Juneteenth and is the date slaves were freed in Texas, although slaves in border states were not freed until December 6, 1865, when the 13th Amendment was ratified by the requisite number of states.

In May, Illinois voted to make the date a new state holiday.

  1. The Latino and LGBT groups will surely demand their own holidays now.

The Dems will probably make it a campaign issue in the 2024 election.

  2. oh goody another flag burning day … since that is legal to do these days when it is above the red white and blue especially … however i don’t believe that history ever happened either since none of all the other history is believed … just more fake news from the past i guess.

  3. May this day serve as a solemn warning for the future generations of America’s remnants.

Just pick your own damn cotton.

  4. Get rid of Independence Day.

    The country exists no more.

    Time to secede.

  5. Pokorny for Gay Pride Emcee next year. He’s an ‘ally’ of sickness, a prince of perversity!
