Three-Day Weekend for State Employees Starting Tomorrow, Reflection on Slavery Urged

Although the bill that Governor JB Prizker signed making Juneteeth a state holiday doesn’t take effect until next year, he has given state employees tomorrow off anyway.

Pritzker says that the Juneteenth holiday bill signed by President Joe Biden requires his action.

Here is his press release:

Gov. Pritzker Announces State Government Offices Closed Tomorrow for New Federal Juneteenth Holiday

Holiday is an Opportunity for Celebration and Reflection

CHICAGO – With President Joe Biden signing legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021, Governor JB Pritzker announced that state government offices will be closed Friday, June 18 in accordance with the new federal law recognizing the importance of emancipating enslaved Americans.

On Wednesday, Gov. Pritzker signed Illinois’ law to make Juneteenth a state holiday at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, in the shadow of the Emancipation Proclamation.

“I’m pleased to see the federal government join Illinois in recognizing Juneteenth as an official holiday, offering all Americans a day to reflect on the national shame of slavery and the work we must do to dismantle systemic racism,” said Governor JB Pritzker.

“Most importantly, let us stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Black Americans who will celebrate Juneteenth as a milestone in their fight for every ounce of the freedom that is their God-given right – and continue with them in that fight.”

When Gov. Pritzker signed Illinois’ Juneteenth legislation earlier this week with the bill sponsors, he reiterated his commitment to leading the nation in dismantling structural racism.

In addition to closing state offices on Friday, June 18, Illinois will continue the recognition of Juneteenth throughout the state, lowering all flags covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act to half-staff on Saturday.

In addition, a Juneteenth flag will fly proudly over the Illinois state Capitol in Springfield on every Juneteenth, starting this year.

“I’m pleased to see the federal government join Illinois in recognizing Juneteenth as an official holiday, offering all Americans a day to reflect on the national shame of slavery and the work we must do to dismantle systemic racism.”

This is what he should have said if he were honest about wanting to “reflect”:

“I’m pleased to see the federal government join Illinois in recognizing Juneteenth as an official holiday, offering all Americans a day to reflect on the national shame of slavery and the despicable actions by Democrats in the 1800’s in trying to block Republican President Abraham Lincoln’s efforts to free the slaves.

  2. I’m sure all taxpayers are real happy JumBo just gave away unknown millions of free $$

  3. It’s always nice to see would be slave masters try to ameliorate their guilt over being awful human beings by trying to ingratiate themselves to the very people they work hard to keep in slavery.

    Politicitians…

    Are….

    Idiots…

Every time they sink to a new low in the game of “not it” while most certainly being “it” they somehow get lower.

It’s not quite Hilary with the hot sauce awful, but only because her smarmy elitism was SO much worse than giving the slaves a day off.

Gee thanks, you politicians you, for stating that slavery is bad, mmkaay.

Thank you for setting aside a day to reflect on this.

And we’ll thank you to stop selling us, our children and generations of Illinoisans into slavery with your indiscriminate looting of the public coffers for your own enrichment rather than the Public Good.

Don’t just think about it this Juneteenth.

Reflect on what the slaves did to the slave masters when they took over ships or decided to leave the plantation.

That is not a one off in history.

Ask a few Egyptians who were unhappy when their slaves were freed and died horrible deaths pursuing them.

When you decide doing evil to your fellow human being is okay because your just SO elite you may be surprised what comes back to you.

(Not one liberal reads books, or anything, so this warning will go completely unheeded. They are easily some of the stupidest humans who have ever walked the planet.)

  4. Perhaps the wrong group of people are being asked to reflect on their actions/behaviors.

Will this so called holiday stop the feral Negroes from murdering each other, or will it encourage them
to continue their mayhem upon society ?

    I await the results.

  5. “Juneteenth” did not “free the slaves” in the USA proper and the Emancipation Proclamation only affected a number of Confederate States as a means of attempting to destabilize it.

Wouldn’t be until Dec of 1865 that the 13th Amendment was ratified.

  6. TEAR IT DOWN,. its all fake never happened…. … like they do to America … red, white blue will always be on top… no matter how hard they try to erase her… just like the statues they ruined—– karma is coming ….

  7. Can’t events be “celebrated” without it being a freebie, unproductive day to govt employees?

Democrats stay home, and we work to pay for them.

Pritzger cant waste $$ fast enough.

We need to mobilize Republicans to get off their rears and vote.

  8. Federal government passes law – unanimously (ie very bipartisan) – requiring last Friday to be a holiday.

McHenry County Blog commenters blame Pritzker.

  9. Also, a similar bill passed, and was signed by the Governor, but wouldn’t have kicked in until next year.

Oh, by the way – that bill was ALSO unanimous (i.e. bipartisan).

But sure – it is all Pritzker’s fault.
