Lake County State’s Attorney Allows Lake County State’s Attorney Erik Rinehart Allows Crooked Former Deputy Vernon Hills Police Chief Allowed to Keep His Pension

When I saw the story in the Lake and McHenry County Scanner about a deal cut by newly-elected Lake County State’s Attorney Eric F. Rinehart, a Democrat with former Vernon Hills Deputy Police Chief Patrick Zimmerman whart struck me was its leniency.

There were two felony and two misdemeanor charges that came out of the Grand Jury.

The Lake and McHenry County Scanner explains,

An internal investigation revealed that Zimmerman had been paid over $4,000 based on false traffic citations he had written, prosecutors said.

While the allegedly falsified records triggered payment of grant funds by the Village of Vernon Hills, the tickets were never submitted for processing to the village, the courts, or the Secretary of State, and no motorists were affected.

Rinehart allowed Zimmerman to plead guilty to one misdemeanor.

With a felony conviction on his record, Zimmerman would have lost his pension–a real penalty to any public employee.

The U.S. Attorney has also allowed public employees to keep their pensions by allowing people to plead guilty to crimes that are not related to their official duties. That also allows an official to draw a public pension.

  1. Of course.

Back the Blue, even when they screw me and you.

Kenneally did this with the Township crook Bobby Miller.

    Franks, got a pass, too.

    Different rules for special folks.

  2. This is a bad idea.

The Biden administration wants to let immigration officers grant full approval to illegal aliens claiming asylum, taking that decision from judges.

A backlog of asylum cases means the system requires repair, and allowing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers to decide on asylum applications is the start of replacing the system, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a notice of the proposed changes.

The proposed process (pdf) would give the officers the power to unilaterally approve applications for asylum, withholding from deportation, or claims under the Convention Against Torture. If an officer denies an application, the applicant could request an administrative review by an immigration judge.

“Today marks a step forward in our effort to make the asylum process fairer and more expeditious. This rule will both reduce the caseload in our immigration courts and protect the rights of those fleeing persecution and violence,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.

  3. It’s professional courtesy, one civil service freeloader looking out for another.

  4. Yeah Cindy when??

They will raise the levy to tax you more to pay Cal if the funds run low.

    Ask him.

  5. What did the Lake County State’s Attorney allow himself to do?

Should the headline be edited, Cal? 🙂

  6. Zimmerman has a Cheetos addiction that interferes with his judgment.

    Yes, it’s in the file!

  7. Cheetos? I thought his defense Atty claimed he had an addiction to ju-jubees.
