MCHENRY POLICE ARREST ONE SUBJECT INVOLVED IN SHOOTING INCIDENT
John R. Birk, Chief of Police of the McHenry Police Department, announced today, one subject has been criminally charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in McHenry.
Through this investigation the McHenry Police Department has determined this was an isolated incident.
None of the subjects involved are residents of the City of McHenry nor McHenry County.
Just as one of the offenders was quickly taken into custody within a couple hours of the incident, the McHenry Police Department continues to aggressively pursue the other subjects involved.
On Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at approximately 1:25P.M., officers of the McHenry Police Department responded to the intersection of IL Route 31 and Bull Valley Road for a report of shots fired.
A preliminary investigation determined two vehicles were involved, a red Jeep Compass and a silver Nissan Maxima.
The McHenry Police Department closed the intersection of IL Route 31 and Bull Valley Road for approximately three hours for the collection of evidence.
Over fifty shell casings were located at the scene.
It has been reported by media that an AR-15 style rifle was used in this incident, but the McHenry Police Department has yet to determine the specific firearms used by the offenders.
There were no reported injuries related to this incident.
Gunfire did strike a vehicle that also happened to be stopped at that intersection, but the occupant was not injured.
McHenry Investigators began an extensive effort in the collection of evidence and statements related to this incident.
During the course of the investigation one subject has been taken into custody.
A felony review with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office was conducted on the evening of August 29th, 2021 and a male subject identified as, DANTE L. TERRELL, JR. (age 29, DOB: 08/11/1992) of 2312 Joppa Ave.,
Zion, Illinois, was formally charged with:
• 1 Count of ATTEMPT MURDER – Class X Felony
• 1 Count of AGGRAVATED DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM – Class 1 Felony
• 1 Count of UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON – Class 3 Felony
• 1 Count of AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON – Class 4 Felony
TERRELL was also wanted on a warrant from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
