Open Burning of Landscape Waste – Last weekend
Landscape waste may be burned on Saturdays and Sundays from dawn through dusk during the Fall months of October and November. The burning of landscape waste is permitted only when winds are less than 10 mph.
The burning site must be a minimum of 100’ from any principal structure and supervised at all times by an individual at least 18 years of age. A fire extinguisher, garden hose or water source must be available at the burning site.
Prohibited at all times is the burning of manure, garbage, construction materials, litter, grass clippings (eff. 10/5/2021) and etc…on any property.
We have seen and received multiple complaints of residents not complying with the ordinance, please be advised violators will be cited.
Recreational fires and ceremonial fires are exempt but may not be larger than 3’x3’x3’ and cannot contain leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings. Click here for the requirements.
Sorry about your asthma Cal. If you had the amount of oaks dropping on my property you might understand the benefits of burning. Just so you know I only burn when the prevailing winds do not blow at my neighbors homes. Even the liberal ones.
The weekend burning, Saturday and Sunday, needs more leeway. There are many times in Oct and Nov where it is too windy, or wet or raining on Saturday and/or Sunday. The burning law should give a “rain” date day during the following week when Saturday and Sunday are not suitable for burning.
Smoke can be minimized by burning only dry crispy leaves and having a very hot bed of ashes.
Apparently burning wood in masonry fireplaces has no limits. Can do it any time in colder weather from Sept through April. What about the pollutants from burning wood? Why do people have the need to burn wood?
My brother had severe asthma his whole life starting at age eight until he died at 77. He would be the one gathering the leaves for burning. It’s bs that leaf burning causes attacks. This is such a joke that the government has convinced so many of you to hate fires! Everything you use for power burns something. You want to ban all burning? Then no one will be alive. Ignorance is off the chain.
