Five Years for Trying to Steal from Mariano’s

DAVID HARPER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE OFFENSE OF ROBBERY

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that David O. Harper, 31, of McHenry, Illinois, was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Honorable Judge Robert Wilbrandt after pleading guilty to Robbery (Victim over 60), a Class 1 Felony. 

On May 26, 2021, Harper attempted to steal merchandise from Mariano’s in Crystal Lake.

An employee of the store made efforts to stop Harper. Harper then pushed a shopping cart into the employee and pulled a knife out of his pocket.

Harper escaped the Mariano’s parking lot but was detained nearby.

This case was investigated by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

This case was prosecuted by Brian Miller of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

  1. Not because he tried to steal something, I believe it’s because he pulled a knife on someone.

  2. Steal food from a grocery store because you were hungry…5 years, in article above, sell heroin that kills a person and you get 6 years.

    What gives with the disparate sentencing?

    Doesn’t the Judge ask these questions of our states attorney?
