New Darren Bailey Video Ad on Chicago Public Schools — 3 Comments

  1. It’s not a really good ad but considering its target audience would be Republican primary voters, it suffices.
    My rating: B

    Cons
-Lacks details, how is he going to clean up corruption? (Although for a 30 second ad that might be impossible to do.)
-“Chicago LIBERALS” was kind of cringe, at least to me.
-Few sources with Fox News being one of them. I suppose this is counterbalanced by Chicago Sun-Times though.

    Pros
    -Straight and to the point.
-Video footage of him talking to people is good.
-Ad overall is put together well transitioning from news report to Pritzker being identified as source of problem with darkened background and accompanied by sad music to uplifting music with Bailey in sunny scenes.

If this were a general election ad I’d give it a D or D minus, but considering it’s only a 30 second spot where not much can be said and its target is Republican voters, I believe it accomplishes its goals. At this point, Bailey’s goals are to increase name recognition, to win the GOP primary, and to establish himself as an alternative to JB Pritzker. It’s sufficient in that regard and was put together well so I give it a B.

Is this ad being played on TV? I’ll take a screenshot of it if it ever pops up during a YouTube video.

I saw some Sullivan ads last year but that guy really fell off. It’s hard to recover when you make a bad first impression. And like I’ve said, with “sticky” Bailey supporters giving him a high floor and opposition to him being split between several candidates (Schimpf, Sullivan, Rabine, and the minor candidates) it will be almost impossible to beat Bailey in the primary.

Bill Brady won the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary with only 20.3%.

Topinka won the 2006 primary with just over 38 percent.

I would LOVE it if we had runoffs if no candidate got a majority, but given how bad this state’s finances are that can’t be expected.

    But it would be fun!

  2. At first I wasn’t that happy with his pick for Lt Governor, then I heard who the others chose and figured he did okay.
