Mark Curran has Filed to run for Illinois Supreme Court, Serving Lake, McHenry, Kane, Kendall and DeKalb Counties

Libertyville, IL (March 11, 2022) – Friends of Mark Curran, the official committee to elect Mark Curran, Jr. to the Illinois Supreme Court, District 2, has announced that Mark Curran has filed to be on the ballot in June’s primary election.

Curran’s campaign promises to be one without political favors to pay off so he can focus solely on upholding the state’s Constitution and administering the judicial system in Illinois.

Mark is known by the people for his passion for the defenseless and his distaste for corruption. Now more than ever, it’s important to elect someone who is known and trusted to sit on the state’s highest court. Illinoisans need someone who’ll stand up for their values and against the “business as usual” back room deals we’ve become known for. People want to see faith restored in our judicial system.

“People want to be free. They want to live their lives, go to their churches, have their jobs and have a safe place for their families.

“They want the security of law and order and they want to see our state get better. They want Illinois to be a place they can be proud of again. I want to do my part to dutifully uphold the Constitution and make sure the judicial system in Illinois is a just and corruption free one.”

.

Mark Curran has served as the Attorney General’s Gang Crimes Bureau Chief. He worked as a senior prosecutor, a States Attorney, a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and was the longest elected Sheriff of Lake County. Most recently, he was the Republican Candidate against Dick Durbin for U.S. Senate [in 2020].

The party make up on the Illinois Supreme Court is 4 to 3 with a Democrat majority. A win by Mark Curran, running in the Republican Primary, is a major step towards shifting the balance and bringing real reform.

Mark Curran’s experience as a top level administrator, an attorney, law enforcement official and Professor of Business Law and Criminal Justice, make him uniquely suited for the entirety of the job’s responsibilities.

Contrasting himself as someone who lives in the community “in broad daylight” verses being coronated by the political class, Curran’s website sends a clear message: www.WeKnowMark.com. The site features lots of information about the candidate as well as a download of the state’s Constitution and a map of District 2, made up of the counties where he is seeking to serve: Lake, McHenry, Kane, Kendall and DeKalb.

Since judicial candidates are forbidden to ask for money personally, the website is an important tool for voters to learn more, make informed decisions and provide their support.

The Primary Election will take place on June 28, 2022.

======================

Note from John Lopez: The open 2nd District seat of the Illinois Supreme Court is known as the “Thomas Vacancy”, as the last elected incumbent in this seat, former Justice Bob Thomas, did not serve out his 2nd, 10-year term he was retained to serve in 2010.

Currently, the 2nd District is a Republican seat, and Curran and his Republican primary opponents seek the honor to be the Republican nominee to prevent the Democrats flipping the new 2nd District on November 8.

The new 2nd District consists of the 19th Judicial Circuit (Lake County), the 22nd Judicial Circuit (McHenry County), the 16th Judicial Circuit (Kane County) and the 23rd Judicial Circuit (DeKalb and Kendall counties).

The winner of the November 8 General Election for this seat will have the responsibility of filling vacant Circuit Judge openings in all four judicial circuits within the 2nd District, which is something voters must also take into account when voting in this race both in the primary and the general election.
