Blast from the Past: Anthony Catella Files for Election to Public Office Again

Anthony Catella

Setting his sights lower than his IL-14 congressional bid in 2020, Catella files to run in the Republican primary for the Kane County Board, challenging an appointed incumbent in a 3-man race

In 2020, McHenry County voters living in the 14th Congressional District saw candidate Anthony Catella on the ballot among the 7 Republicans who competed to challenge Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D, Naperville).

Catella finished 7th with 1% of the Republican primary vote.

Last Monday, Catella filed petitions not only to seek reelection to his St. Charles Township Precinct 18 Republican committeeperson position, but also to run for Kane County Board in the 13th District in St. Charles.

He won’t be seen this year on McHenry County ballots, but will be seen in the city of St. Charles.

The 13th District is for all practical purposes an open seat, as the man elected to the Kane County Board in 2018, Steve Weber, resigned the seat after winning election to the St. Charles City Council last April.

The Kane County Board appointed Todd Wallace (R, St. Charles) to the seat.

Appointed incumbent Wallace, along with Stephen Brown (R, St. Charles) join Catella on the Republican primary ballot.

Catella, 52, served in the Army and was a Catholic priest in Louisiana. He is currently a store clerk at a South Elgin sporting goods store.

Just as he did in 2020, Catella did not file his petitions for County Board until early last Monday afternoon. Catella will not compete in the top-of-the-ballot lottery as Wallace and Brown will.

Catella will be last on the ballot, barring a filer on Monday,

The winner of the Republican primary will go on to face Michael Linder (D, St. Charles) on the November 8 ballot.

  1. At least his heart is in the right place

And he is learning from his loss, that he needs practical political experience before running for a big office where we need people that are fine tuned and educated on how govt works.

I wish him luck in his endeavor and hope he’s truly going to dig in and learn.
