Teresi Again Calls Out Dem Opponent Comptroller Mendoza for Missing Report

From the Shannon Teresi campaign:

One Week Left in Session, Still No Financial Reports

Crystal Lake, IL Illinois is only one week away from the end of session, and Comptroller Mendoza has STILL not released the 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Why is this a problem?

The ACFR is the official record of the state’s financial health.

It details the state’s spending, debts, and other critical information lawmakers need to build and approve the budget for the state.

Currently, the Comptroller’s office has only released an interim report totaling 5 pages for the fiscal year that ended last July.

For reference, the 2020 full ACFR totaled 397 pages.

Contrary to Comptroller Mendoza’s rosy rhetoric about the state’s financial health, the interim report shows that the state took on $6.6 billion in debt while only increasing revenues by $2.9 billion. Overall, the state’s financial health is in decline.

Comptroller candidate Shannon Teresi released the following statement calling for the full accounting of the state’s financial health:

“It has been 9 months since FY2021 ended.

We are 1 week from the end of the spring legislative session. Illinois is among the last states in the country to produce its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Comptroller Mendoza has a responsibility to release the full report immediately so that lawmakers have accurate information on which to build a state budget.

And at the same time, she needs to explain to Illinois taxpayers why this information has been delayed so long.”
