Another Female Candidate Refuses to Submit to League of Women Voters’ Questionning in St. Charles

Repeatedly, my colleague John Lopez has written about how 11th Congressional District candidate Catalina Lauf has refused to attend the League of Women Voters forum in St. Charles Wednesday night.

Now comes fellow candidate Andrea Heeg with this statement:

Central Kane County League of Women Voters Forum May 11

Andrea Heeg

I have decided not to participate in the League of Women Voters (LWV) forum on May 11.

My decision was informed by the presentation by the LWV a few months ago titled Critical Race Theory: What it is and What it isn’t.

The LWV’s description of the presentation that is available on their website and says

“School boards around the country are being accused of teaching Critical Race Theory. Why does the League believe this harassment is misguided?”

I watched the hour-long presentation.

It was clear that the LWV dismisses local parents’ concerns about CRT being woven into K-12 curriculums around the country.

As parents, we see that CRT has already been introduced in New Mexico and that Florida rejected many curriculum offerings because CRT was woven into the content.

The LWV representatives’ viewpoint does not take into account the entire population’s view of CRT that is necessary for a representative to consider.

While I am forgoing this opportunity for media coverage of my campaign, I cannot participate in this event.

Another Female Candidate Refuses to Submit to League of Women Voters’ Questionning in St. Charles — 17 Comments

  1. LOL – “I disagree on policy with one tjingy that LWV did, so I refuse to participate in a candidate forum.”

Ah, yes, THAT is the kind of representation we need. Is that how sh’ll treat all constituents she disagrees with?

“I disagree with you on something, therefore I won’t interact with you” is the opposite of what we need.

  2. League of Woman Voters is hardly a neutral organization.

    It is manifestly leftist.

    Very much so.

“The American public has been hoodwinked into thinking the League of Women Voters is a non-ideological good government group. After all, the group purports to be nonpartisan. The League has used the non-partisan brand to increase their credibility to government election officials and the American public.

2012 should mark the end of that charade. Next time you see the League cited in a news story, be aware of their broad, pro-Democrat Party agenda.”

So. Mr. Lopez, quite trying to buffalo us.

I agree with Lauf, the League is very biased.

Why submit ti their agenda and BS?

  3. Now I’ve seen everything when Nefarious Shake makes more sense.

MsTrumpion, point to me where Catalina Lauf made a similar statement about LWV that Andrea Heeg made. Show me where.

Lauf made no such statement, and both Lauf and Heeg chickened out of Daily Herald editorial board interview.

Lauf skipping Batavia has nothing to do with LWV and everything to do with cowardice.

Who’d have thought Lauf would try to emulate Richard Irvin.

  4. Lopez, try and catch up.

Lauf and Heeg don’t have to kowtow to the ugly harridans of LOWV.

    Get with it Lopez.

I would have expected somebody supposedly working for Illinois Family Forum,or whatever you call it, to be a bit more up on things.

    Everyone must choose sides.

Look at those being attacked and by whom, Christ vs. anti-Christ, explicitly too.

The tribe’s hatred is not hidden, it is on full display, proudly, too.

  5. LWV is a cesspool of liberals and left wing nut jobs!

I think the GOP should do their own going forward especially for primaries!

Paper endorsements are useless anymore so why participate in these issues as well.

They don’t have the best interest of the party!

I would bet that Republicans would be more than willing to show up on MSNBC but Libs refuse to go on or in a Republican media group!

Want to get in 2024 that whoever is the Lib fro Pres will refuse to do a debate with say a true conservative moderating!

  6. Nice try métis but Lauf isn’t skipping LWV because of wokeism, she’s pulling a Richard Irvin and is afraid to debate in public where she cannot control the questioning.

Prove me wrong and show me where Lauf said same as Heeg.

And why did they both skip Daily Herald editorial board interview?

Tomorrow night, the men, Jerry Evans and Mark Carroll will be centers of attention in Batavia.

  7. Lopez, by what right, law or custom does Lauf or Heeg owe you any explanation?

If what you say is true and Lauf is “afraid to debate in public where she cannot control the questioning,” then she’s quite wise to avoid the contrived debate.

  8. Tomorrow night, the men, Jerry Evans and Mark Carroll will be centers of attention for 15 people in Batavia w/ crappy little questions fabricated by woketard witches like

“If your daughter was raped do you approve of abortion?”

Or, “Do you support a Trump candidacy in 2024?”

Or, “Do you feel Chauvin got a fair trial?”

Or “Do you support Kyle Rittenhouse or think Oprah Winfrey is a genius?”

  9. I agree with what commenters are saying. Republicans should have cut LOWV off long ago.

Would Democrats running for a state rep seat in Cook County agree to do a forum hosted by Illinois Right to Life or Three Headed Eagle Alliance?

No, of course not, and they would be right to refuse such an invitation.

When you have groups whose values are completely alien from one another, it would be one thing to have a sit down long format type of podcast — but for that hostile group to be the moderators of a debate for the other side’s primary election is dumb at best and disastrous at worst.

Maybe if they were co-hosting it with another group so there was a balance of questions that would be permissible, but for them to control the *entire* event is asking for trouble.

    Time to wise up.

Heeg is saying no to a group that asks questions about diversity and green energy to school board candidates instead of getting to the meat and potato issues like educational outcomes, safety, or cost per student. She is saying NO to a group that expresses support for anti-white communist ideas being taught to little kids.

More Republicans should follow her lead.

    Just cut these ghouls off.

As to the Daily Herald, it has lost its credibility.

Its last forum for the U.S. Senate was the most atrociously moderated event I’ve EVER seen; and one of their lead political reporters belongs in the B league for MSNBC, not reporting for a local newspaper.

It’s not only understandable that people are ducking these fraudulent woke struggle sessions, it’s advisable and should be normalized until said groups deradicalize.

  10. First, Andrea Heeg stated in writing why she is skipping Batavia LWV candidate forum tonight. She shared it on her campaign Facebook page, and shared it with Cal, who published it.

Good for her. The fact her congressional campaign is going nowhere is irrelevant. Heeg acted like a mature adult & explained her reason for missing tonight’s forum.

Lauf, to-date, has not done the same. I asked anyone to prove me wrong, and show me where Lauf did a Heeg-like explanation, and she has not done so and people who favor Lauf skipping the LWV debate can’t prove that’s the real reason she’s missing tonight.

Will Lauf issue such a statement, or have a convenient “scheduling conflict” as the reason she’s not showing in Batavia tonight remains to be seen.

Lauf sounds to me like she’s pulling a Richard Irvin, thinking she has the primary wrapped up and with the recent Elise Stefanik endorsement, is Lauf thinking she doesn’t need to debate her primary opponents?

There are no published metrics to suggest she has a double-digit polling lead like Irvin in governor’s race, nor has her campaign done any large scale retail campaigning (mailers, digital ads, TV commercials). If anyone has seen anything, please show me where.

Lauf’s maturity, or lack of it, has shown in her Instagram interview with Chrissi Bretz last month, and again in the recent Carry Trainer podcast and her sexually charged motorcycle 4×4 signs.

Believe me, among mainstream Republican primary voters, Lauf’s messaging to date is NOT resonating.

There are other candidate forums on the schedule between now and mid-June that are not being hosted by LWV, so if Lauf and Heeg show up to them, that will be a level of proof they’re missing tonight’s Batavia debate is about LWV.

Daily Herald will be covered under separate comment.

  11. I do agree with Correcting the Daily Herald U.S. Senate editorial endorsement interview was terrible. The editors lost control, and there was little substance shared.

Last Friday’s 11th District editorial endorsement interview clearly made improvements on the newspaper’s part.

It’s too bad only 3 of the six Republican candidates chose to interview, let alone responded to the Daily Herald which tried to accommodate schedules. Not talking to the media, even to set up a meeting betrays a lack of maturity.

As I’ve said in other comments, none of the 3 candidates last Friday, Jerry Evans, Mark Carroll and Susan Hathaway-Altman brought their “A” game to the interview.

I will admit, the Herald did bring their A-game.

As for the candidates, here are the grades I’d assign for last Friday’s interview:

    Jerry Evans B+
    Mark Carroll B
    Susan Hathaway-Altman C+

Evans I believe won, in spite of technical issues with ZOOM a major candidate shouldn’t be having at this stage of the campaign.

The Herald did not accept some of Carroll’s answers and did a solid job applying discernment. Evans won, IMHO because of his closing zinger about his campaign’s successful six-figure fundraising, low burn rate, and being the only candidate to have both among all six candidates.

It remains to be seen if Evans’ claim will result in a Daily Herald endorsement, let alone a primary win.

Thus far, Carroll has put together a coalition including establishment Republicans who were initially going to back Cassandra Tanner Miller until her campaign fizzled, as well as some conservatives and Trump supporters (he went to the Mar a Lago Mary Miller fundraiser last month with Darren Bailey and Jim Marter).

But as brought up many times in my ranking articles, Carroll’s biggest challenge is money and to-date, we’ve seen no evidence he’ll be able to get his message out on a broader scale.

All that being said, Catalina Lauf, Andrea Heeg and Cassandra Tanner Miller without issuing a statement why they chose not to participate last Friday, and the Herald published their nonresponsiveness in spite of numerous attempts to communicate.

As weak as the candidates who did participate showed, Lauf could have brought an A-game and proved she’s ready to be the nominee. She chose not to.

Bad call on Lauf’s part, IMHO.

  12. Is this the year 2022 or what?

How can any organization from the past, formed along gender or racial criteria still be relevant?

Not having adjusted or modified their name to the norms of today?

What if a group of guys formed an organization today in say Florida, or Texas and called themselves, “The League of Men Voters”?

How long before the media, especially left leaning, would start criticizing them for discrimination by naming their org along gender lines rather than just a neutral sounding name that implicitly and explicitly is inclusive.

Questions would be asked if the group had other genders within it.

  13. Lauf just cuts out of everything because she’s chicken shit due to the fact that she hasn’t learned much about current events and policy in 2 yrs. She’s a fraud. Heeg is not attending because they’re a leftist group and states WHY she won’t participate. At least her mother raised her right to respond to invitations and not just blow people off like Lauf does.

Both should participate if their opponents are participating. You’re running against them. Time to grow up and get in the game. That is if you have any substance and wish your voters to see/hear what you have to say. Gonna hide in your house because Dems disagree with you? No, you should try to use power of persuasion at least with the voting public.

Now if ALL the Republican’s agreed to forgo the Leftist League’s forum that would’ve been powerful. As it is, it’s cowardice on behalf of Heeg and Lauf.
