FEC Fundraising Through June 30 Shows Only Two Realistic Republican Pick-up Opportunities

Bill Foster began 3rd Quarter with just under $5 million compared to Catalina Lauf’s $26K a nearly 200-1 cash-on-hand advantage

The 2nd Quarter Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings are in the books, as the latest campaign disclosures in Federal races were due Friday, July 15.

McHenry County Blog has collected the U.S. Senate disclosures of the two major party nominees, along with U.S. House districts targeted by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) or which include and/or touch McHenry County’s boundaries.

The six Illinois targeted NRCC congressional districts and their Democratic incumbents (if any) are:

  • IL-06 and two-term Congressman Sean Casten (D, Downers Grove) challenged by Mayor Keith Pekau (R, Orland Park)
  • IL-08 and three-term Congresman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D, Schaumburg) challenged by Chris Dargis (R, Palatine)
  • IL-11 and 7-term Congressman Bill Foster (D, Naperville) challenged by Catalina Lauf (R, Woodstock)
  • IL-13 open seat where Nikki Budzinski (D, Springfield) and Regan Deering (R, Decatur) competing
  • IL-14 and two-term Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D, Naperville) challenged by Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder (R, Oswego)
  • IL-17 open seat where Esther Joy King (R, East Moline) and Eric Sorensen (D, Moline) competing

The FEC fundraising grid compiled for McHenry County Blog consists of only cycle-to-date (January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022) and cash-on-hand through June 30.

Given the cash-on-hand (COH) totals in the contested districts within/around McHenry County and statewide, the only realistic pick-up opportunities for Republicans are:

  • The open IL-17 seat, where Republican King enjoys an over 10-1 COH advantage
  • IL-06, where Congressman Casten, while fending off the primary challenge of Congresswoman Marie Newman (D, LaGrange), has left him with just over $574K COH, slightly over 10-1 from Mayor Pekau’s COH

The other NRCC targeted districts (IL-08, IL-11, IL-13, IL-14) shows the Democrats with formidable COH leads going into the final 4 months of the campaign.

Close to home, Congressman Foster’s cash-on-hand through June 30 was $4,926,307.21.

In a press release, Foster for Congress Campaign Manager Dovile Svirupskaite reported the $801,853 raised in the 2nd Quarter is the highest quarterly total ever since Foster first started running for Congress back in 2007.

“The enthusiasm to reelect the only PhD physicist in Congress keeps growing and is reflected in these robust fundraising numbers.

“These resources are vital for our campaign and allow us to head into the general election in a strong position. We are energized and committed to reaching voters in every part of the 11th District.”

Republican challenger Catalina Lauf ended the 2nd Quarter with $25,923.63 in the bank to begin her challenge against Foster’s nearly $5 million.

Lauf ended her primary campaign having spent a total of $1,426,314.44 from her initial entry into the IL-16 Republican race on February 23, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

As the grid illustrates, Republican nominees in all of the contested/NRCC targeted races face similar challenges apart from IL-17.

For example, Congressman Krishnamoorthi entered July with over $12 million in the bank to take on challenger Dargis in November. The IL-08 consists of northern Kane County, including all of the village of Algonquin and part of the village of Huntley, along with northwest Cook County.

This press release, posted on Capitol Fax shows Congresswoman Lauran Underwood (D, Naperville) had a million dollar 2nd quarter as she prepares for her November General Election with Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder (R, Oswego):

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood announced today that her reelection campaign has raised more than $1,000,000 during the second fundraising quarter of 2022 continuing a trend of dominance over her opponent. Thanks to the grassroots support fueling her campaign, Underwood enters the third quarter with more than $2.8 million cash on hand, and has raised more than $5.2 million this cycle, signaling her strength in the race. U.S. Representative Underwood, a registered nurse and public health expert, has made access to high-quality, affordable health care and lowering costs for families her top priority in Congress.

“The general election is on, the stakes could not be higher and our campaign is stronger than ever thanks to the unwavering support of Team Underwood,” said Rep. Underwood. “We have a vision for the future of our community where hard working Illinoisans have high-quality and affordable health care, our children are free from the terror of mass shootings, women have full authority over their health care decisions, there are more good paying union jobs rebuilding our infrastructure, and billionaires and corporations finally pay their fair share of taxes. That’s a vision worth fighting for and I’m honored to have the support of my community to bring it to life.”

In the June 28th primary, Congresswoman Underwood earned nearly three times more votes than her GOP opponent beating him in all seven counties including his home Kendall County, and in Will County, the largest in the district, she outperformed the entire Republican field combined.

  1. Illinois is Willy Wonka’s Factory and the only people who get Golden Tickets are the Varuca Salts.

  2. Wow that’s exciting Foster Manager Dovile.

So I’m guessing you both know light travels faster than sound and while Foster appears bright, than he speaks.

  3. ** So I’m guessing you both know light travels faster than sound and while Foster appears bright, than he speaks.**

LOL – I love when people attempt to make fun of someone’s intelligence but can’t even put together a coherent sentence when trying to do so.

  4. Nefarious, you are rather weak-minded and what I would term a woke, childish soy child w/ transgender tendencies.

  5. It’s because I’m a product of Illinois Schools. I take no credit for my word salads.

I stand on the shoulders of educational greats like Wood Shop Teacher Three Fingers Smashki.

  6. The wood shop teachers and gym teachers were usually also the driver’s ed instructors which explains a lot.

  7. Typical Bullsh** Democrat boilerplate from Underwood. Such as:

    – Vision of the future
    – HARD WORKING Illinoisans
    – Women have FULL authority on health
    – Good paying UNION jobs
    – Paying fair share of taxes

The lady states she was a nurse. Exactly what were her experiences, her job assignments and length of service while in the nursing profession? How did her managers, supervisors rate her job performance?

  8. Yes, campaign cash is important but if it were all important, we’d have seen President Hillary and many other who outspent their opponents many times but still lost.

Regan Deering has a better chance than Keith Pekau given the primary totals.

Given the total hate of Downstate for Biden, Pritzker and Lightfoot, this district is more like even this year and maybe better than that given blacks in East St. Louis and the college students of Champaign are definitely not excited this year to vote Democrat.

Deering has raised the same amount as Pekau.

Unless by some minor miracle Bill Lipinski runs third party (very unlikely given how late it is), Deering has a far, far better chance to win than Pekau who must face an incumbent that just whipped another Democrat incumbent, who will out spend Pekau far more than Deering’s opponent.

And we can add the Cook County Fraud machine which no Democrat County downstate can duplicate.

  9. Lipinski can’t run because he voted in the Democratic Party.

In the GOP primary after he husband Mark died, Dee Beaubien could run as an Independent because she did not vote in the Republilcan Primary when Mark’s appointed successor (endorsed by pretty much the entire Republican Establishment) was beated by Dave McSweeney.

  10. Deadline to file passed too.

Lipinski is not going to be on the ballot.

He also wrote a piece saying he wasn’t going to run.
