Fatal vehicle crash on Rakow Road in Lake in the Hills

Lake in the Hills, IL – On August 2, 2022, at approximately 10:06 p.m., Lake in the Hills police and the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department were dispatched to a report of a vehicle rolled over on Rakow Road, between McHenry Road and Pyott Road.

The crash involved three vehicles, a Honda Civic, a Nissan Sentra and a Volkswagen Passat.

There were multiple injuries sustained from the Volkswagen and the Nissan, including a juvenile.

The driver of the Volkswagen Passat was transported to the Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

The front seat passenger of the Volkswagen, a juvenile, was transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital.

Lake in the Hills Police Department issued a Nixle traffic advisory at approximately 10:57 p.m. notifying subscribers eastbound Rakow Road was closed at South McHenry Avenue due to a traffic accident investigation.

A second Nixle message notifying the road was re-opened was sent at approximately 6:13 a.m.

The accident is currently under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Accident Investigation Unit and the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Any further release of information is being withheld pending family notification of the decedent.
