Garage/Vehicle Fire on Crystal Lake’s Eagle Street

From the Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department:

Structure Fire – 537 Eagle St.

Crystal Lake, IL – On the morning of August 3, 2002 at 11:13a.m. the City of Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire in a detached garage located at 537 Eagle St.

537 Eagle St., Crystal Lake.

Upon arrival on scene crews reported a vehicle on fire in the detached garage with flames extending to the structure.

Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, limiting the fire extension to the opening of the garage and siding above the garage door.

The owner was performing maintenance on the fuel system of the vehicle.

While attempting to start the vehicle, the fuel line expelled gasoline onto the engine block, igniting the vehicle.

Fire investigators concluded the fire was accidental in nature. Loss to the structure was estimated to
be $1,000.
