First Kane County Board Democrats wanted to hold a referendum this fall asking voters to increase sales taxes by 5%.
Then, deciding probably they would stand a better chance at passage at the April school/municipal board elections because of lower turnout, they aimed for a spring referendum.
The Kane County Board just defeated placing the sales tax referendum on the ballot in both April and November.
First the Board voted 12-11 to move referendum back to November.
Then, the Board voted 13-9 against putting it on the ballot at all.
Appears as if some of the Democrats, who control the Board, feared of a November backlash.
