My Leftwing Oberlin College Finally Reaches the End of the Appeal Road on Avoiding Paying Local Defamed Bakery about $36 Million

As my undergraduate college continues to drift farther left, the court suit that demonstrates the extreme unfairness of its treatment of nearby Gibson’s Bakery has drawn to a close.

Oberlin Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo

Oberlin College’s Dean of Students, Meredith Raimondo, a leftwing woman who copied flyers for students to distribute accusing the college town institution of being racist, plus provided gloves when it got cold in November, brougt the college beyond the irrelevant student First Amendment defense that it asserted.

A male black Connecticut student was chased out of the store sfter stealing a bottle of wine.

The Gibson grandson, who was at the resgister, tried to stop him and got beat up for this trouble.

The black student was arrested, whining that he wanted his mother while in the Police car.

Pickets desended shouting the Gibsons were racists.

The college stopped buying donuts from the bakery.

They discouraged students from renting rooms in Gibson-owner houses.

Now, I’ve read, on student tours, prospective enrollees are advised not to shop at the baker-convenience store a half a block from the campus.

Oh, yes, the black student pled guilty to the shoplifting a year later.

The Gibsons offered to settle the matter, if Oberlin College would only apologize.

The arrogant institution refused.

So, the Gibson’s sued…and won in Circuit Court and won in the Appellate Court.

Now, the Ohio Supreme Court has refused to hear the case, so it’s time for my college to pony up the millions it owns in judgement, plus interest.

Too bad.

So sad.

Legal Insurrection’s Bill Jacobson’s organization covered the trial better than any other.

In the YouTube interview above done before the Ohio Supreme Court’s decision he characterized my college as “almost sociopathic malevolence” in its action toward Gibson’s Bakery.

The Gibsons and their attorneys stated the following after the decision was rendered:

“The jury recognized Oberlin College’s bullying tactics. The students admitted their misconduct, but Oberlin College could never admit that they were wrong.

“They presumed that they could bring the Gibsons to their knees.

“The power of truth has enabled the Gibson family to survive Oberlin’s onslaught.”

You can read his article about the most recent decision here.

Trending on college newspaper Oberlin Review is a story from December 17, 2021, about Oberlin Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo leaving the school.

The Oberlin Review has not story about the Ohio Supreme Court decision, but it only publishes on Friday.

I’ll look back then.

My Leftwing Oberlin College Finally Reaches the End of the Appeal Road on Avoiding Paying Local Defamed Bakery about $36 Million — 10 Comments

  1. The college should have fitted her with that shock collar, WH Staffers use on Biden, when he drifts off script and starts in on ‘only white guy, Corn Pop’ story’s

  2. Will Oberlin now seek refuge in the bankruptcy court?

Annual interest will run around $1.8M/year!

  3. Read the comments under the Legal Insurrection article.

Lots are on the bankruptcy option.

  4. Only in the wold of progressives can someone cost their employer 36 million dollars and then get hired by another school almost immediately.

This is how I picture the interview.

“Meredith we are sorry you had to be collateral damage for the cause, but We are glad you are wanting to come to Georgia and we will support you 100 percent.”

  5. Some time ago, I sent this letter to the Oberlin College Alumni Association, impressing upon this group of fine upstanding citizens what an utterly feckless and disgustingly volatile being Raimondo was, and how, through her actions, she would continue to bring embarrassment and ridicule to the fine institution Oberlin represents.

    Sirs:

Upon her return to a faculty position next semester (to my disgust), please forward this message to Raimondo:

“Until this week, I had never heard of Gibson’s Bakery.

“I’m certain each and every recipient will be overjoyed, especially when I explain to them exactly how I found this wonderful local bakery named Gibson’s.

“Raimondo, I’ll leave the ‘fire & brimstone’ for you and Myers…get used to it.”

Finally, I will call upon the character of the Alumni Association of this great institution, to challenge the chancellor’s decision, and to recommend the reconsideration of Raimondo’s retention.

    The community has suffered enough.

    Oberlin has suffered enough.

Certainly, Gibson’s Bakery has suffered enough.

The retention of Raimondo would be a source of malignancy, not only upon Oberlin College, but upon your Association, as well…

  6. One wonders if this Raimondo is related to the prior Governor of R.I. and now Secretary of Commerce.

Gina somehow believed that the part of the legal name of R.I. referencing Providence Plantations was somehow racist and related to slave plantations.

Ridiculous since nary one slave ever resided on the R.I. mainland but her ignorance transcended to R.I. voters who changed the name by referendum in 2020.

Now the unique name dating back to colonial establishment is lost to PC history

  7. It’s a shame that Meredith Raimondo wasn’t held personally liable for some portion of that $36 million judgement.

Raimondo learned NOTHING from this lawsuit, and now she’s in a new job at Oglethorpe University, probably stirring up a new pot of trouble.
