McHenry County Touts Youth Apprenticeship Program

From McHenry County:

Youth manufacturing internship program a success

Advance McHenry County‘s investment to get a youth manufacturing internship program off the ground is paying off!

Ninety-two youth, ages 16 to 18, were employed by 19 county manufacturers this summer through the 10-week Manufacturing Pathways Rotational Internship Program.

The McHenry County Board allocated $717,300 to McHenry County College and the Manufacturing Pathways Consortium to create the internship program to expose high school students and recent graduates to local manufacturing career opportunities.

After interning this summer with Jessup Manufacturing and General Kinematics, one student went on to join MCC’s Apprenticeship Program and has been hired by a Huntley manufacturer. Another student who interned with TC Industries will be joining the company this month as a permanent employee.

Other participating students lauded the internship’s hands-on nature and the depth of knowledge of their instructors.

  1. Jeesh, how many of these $700 K, ‘$1.5 M’ etc. etc., programs are there?

If they’re going to finance AAA Ball for the ‘Major League Employers’.

Is there a Safari Supply Grant I can obtain, for my next rural county bar hopping adventure?

  2. Yeah Let’s keep them uneducated and unemployable, that will bring a bright future.

But then again what would you brown shirts have to complain about.

  3. Tell us more about this “bright future”.

Specifically, how many more dollars it will take, after having already spent billions on the failure of Public Schools.

  4. DJ, How much will it cost to put our youth on the social dole? You guys always have the answers.

  5. Look Stephen, Glenn Ford once straightened out a bunch of Dead End kids in the Blackboard Jungle.

In a running time of an hour and a half, for the bargain price of the than New York Teacher’s salary of $2,000 a year.

At some point people are going to realize that up till now, all that cash you keep burning, has been for the adults, not the kids.

  6. I think providing funds to train people for jobs is probably one of the least offensive/objectionable things that a government could do, especially if you’re talking about things like manufacturing and nursing.

Comparing public schools to job training just shows you don’t know what you’re talking about. Stick to comedy DJ.

You spend 10 or 20 thousand to give someone a skill and how much more do you think they earn over their lifetime and pay into taxes vs being unskilled not to mention savings on welfare payments as Pokorny brought up. I see the public school failed you at math.

  7. You mean that Shop Class I took with educational giant Three Fingers Smanski, was actual prep for that Classical Civilization course I had in College?

    Who would have thunk?
