UPDATE: DeSantis’ “You Loot, We Shoot” Reminiscent of Richard Daley’s Instructions to Chicago Police

After a looting of gas station in Fort Myers, Florida, a man in Punta Gorda, a town north of there, painted a message on the plywood covering one of his store’s window, “You Loot, We Shoot.”

Fort Myers, Florida, immediately imposed a curfew.

Governor Ron DeSantis quoted the sign shortly later adding,

“Don’t even think about looting.

“Don’t even think about taking advantage of people in this vulnerable situation.

“I can tell you, in the state of Florida, you never know what may be lurking behind somebody’s home.

“And I would not want to chance that, if I were you, given that we’re a Second Amendment state.”

Here’s was what Mayor Richard Daily said during the 1968 riots (the ad can be skipped after a while);

There has been reports of some looting on Sanibel Island.

DeSantis is deploying the National Guard today.

UPDATE: DeSantis’ “You Loot, We Shoot” Reminiscent of Richard Daley’s Instructions to Chicago Police — 25 Comments

  1. As it should be in IL too.

Some scum bag robed one of the neighbors the other night.

People better wise up the the crime Spaulding (the Gov) is going to happily send your way after Jan 1!

  2. Dirty Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) was in a stakeout in a convenience store with his partner in San Fran when punks, thugs came to rob the store.

Harry took care of the situation with a good result.

We need to have tens of thousands, more, of police and foid people to stop the robbers, rapists, car jackers, thugs, etc.

Honest, law abiding people, citizens need to be in control.

Not thugs, murderers, rapists, car jackers, robbers, looters.

  3. Compared to these two nitwits ‘Dingo’ and ‘bred winner’ spouting, a trucker in a screaming eagle hat is a paragon of political nuance.

  4. These are the types of articles and comments that fuel anti-Second Amendment movements because the criminal statutes are thrown back in our faces.

Florida Statute 776.031 allows a person to use or threaten to use ONLY NON-DEADLY force in defense of property.

Florida Statute 776.013 allows the use of deadly force only when someone FORCEFULLY (home invasion) enters a
    – dwelling,
    – residence or
    – occupied vehicle.

Nowhere in the statutes does it state stores can be protected with deadly force.

The Gov (or his staff) should have read the statutes before shooting-off his mouth.

It might sound macho to say you’re going to blow-away somebody but you better understand the relevant statutes before doing so.

  5. 776.031 Use or threatened use of force in defense of property

    (2) A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force only if he or she reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.

776.08 Forcible felony.—“Forcible felony” means treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual.

The Governor of Florida is a graduate of Harvard Law School.

We have to consider the possibility that he just might understand Florida law better than Al Zielinski.

  6. “…any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual.”

So, like I said, absent any use or threat of physical force, defending the use of deadly force would be difficult for simple looting.

  7. “Al” is beholden to every other craphole Democrat-run city that has descended into lawlessness, debauchery, and chaos.

But hey, the more you get on the “Gubment” tit and hired “Gubment” watercooler workers, teachers, (not all), unions, (not all), the more inclined they will flip the majority of the State to “victimhood” status or where everyone is “owed” in life.

Illinois being the poster child representative.

That’s right, “Al,” ensure you use the proper pronouns, get that mask on, get your five boosters, and fall in line.

When gas goes up, blame Putin, when it goes down, take the credit.

    Ain’t that right, “Al”?

And when an eight-year-old wants a double mastectomy because they identify as a male, it should therefore then be allowed and the surgery costs picked up by the taxpayers because they are of sound mind and “oppressed”.

However, when an 18-year-old signs a college loan agreement for advanced studies in butterfly mating season habits during the rainforest season in Machu Pichu, is of course a “victim” and their loan should be forgiven.

The same with felons under the age of 25 whose frontal brain cortex has not fully developed and therefore should not be liable for their crimes committed.

This is fair representation of the mind of a Democrat.

  8. A senior citizen sales clerk in a jewelry store was attacked, hit in the head with a hammer by a robber.

The sales clerk fell down behind the counter and then the robber jumped over the counter and kicked the clerk in the head.

A clip was shown on national tv news.

“Surveillance video shows attack, jewelry store robbery
    Tue, September 27, 2022 at 1:01 PM

A man was arrested after assaulting a jewelry store owner and robbing the business. The video has been edited to not show explicit violence. 9/27/22”

    https://news.yahoo.com/surveillance-video-shows-attack-jewelry-180106104.html?fr=yhssrp_catchall

If this were to happen in Chicago or Woodstock or Huntley or Peoria next January, would the robber/attacker be out on the streets in public until his or her trial?

Per the reckless new (not safe) SAFE-T Act approved by the Democrat Legislature and signed by governor Pritzker?

Would the robber/attacker even show up for his/her trial?

  9. At least Billy Bob possess the intellect and wherewithal to provide a relevant and cogent post.

My comment’s focus was not DeSantis but having well-educated and knowledgeable people carrying firearms for their own protection and the protection of their loved ones.

  10. I was around when this was going on, the troops were in and the were confronted by the ghetto thugs constantly….

the NG even set up sand bags and a machine gun at Madison and Kedzie ….the looting, burning and rioting went on for over a week

Until one day..Da Mayor said “SHOOT TO KILL”

It was all over the Ghetto thug was not as brave …

    it was over that day

We need to do that today

  11. The Waukegan Mayor Sabjon had to issue the same
orders to stop the rioting burning and looting also

  12. The Joke of the day was how many Guardsmen would come home with war brides

  13. Apparently Al Zielinski has trouble reading:

    “robbery; burglary; arson;”

So it is not like you said.

These could certainly lack physical force.

    This is not difficult.

  14. LOL….the man who was the crime syndicate king pin demanding that OTHERS obey the law.

Old man Daley was the biggest criminal of all – and society is still paying for the enormous fraud, abuse of power, and organized crime that was HIS doing.

What another DemocRAT scum SWAMP creature.

When will Democrats wake up to the reality that their political party is a crime syndicate?

  15. bill matteson?

I too lived in the city in 1968.

I lived on Albany. (The same block as Ritchey Price. He was my neighbor! 😲 His was the only ranch house on a block of three-flats!)

None of that nonsense came to our neighborhood.

We just watched it in the headlines.

  16. I agree deadly force can be used for forcible felonies.

Apparently Chase has trouble reading: my comment was reflective of this post’s topic: looting.

In every state the common metric for the use of deadly force is “imminent threat of death or great bodily harm.”

Rarely does defense of property rise to meet that hurdle except in armed robbery and home invasions.

  17. bill?

    Did I say Ritchey?

I meant Freddie. (No way to edit in here.)

  18. Bill Ayers and his girlfriend, later wife, were organizers for the Days of Rage riots they conducted in Oct 1969 in downtown Chicago.

They were members of SDS, Students for a democratic(?) Society and then split off to form the Weathermen riot group.

In later years Bill and his wife were friends with the community organizer, Barak Hussein Obama.

In later life, Bill was a professer at a university in Illinois.

    Imagine that.

  20. “Duh police are not dere to create disorder. Duh police are dere to preserve disorder.”

Richie had some good ones, too.
