Sun Returns to Marengo Settlers Days Parade – Part 2, including Libertarians and Republicans

Continuing on McHenry County Blog’s coverage of Sunday’s Marengo Parade, the next entry was the McHenry County Libertarians.

Libertarians really got into the swing of the Roaring Twenties theme. Note the signs, “Kosher Wine, for medinical purposes only,” “Medical Whiskey prescriptions filled here” and “Ethnic Vineger made with Californi Grapes.” Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate Bll Redpath is right behind the banner.

They also distrbuted “We want beer” fans ahead of the parade.

“We want beer.”

On the back of the fan, Libertarian candidates were promoted.

Libertarian Party candidates were featured on the back of the fan.
“Prohibition: Not in the 1920’a Not in the 2020s” reads the sign draped from the truck.

On the back of the truck was another sign:

“Give me liberty and give me beer,” McHenry County Libertarians urge.

The Harvard Milk Days float followed the Libertarians,

Harvard Milk Days Queen Lily Jones was atop the float. Note the sign saying, “Oldest Continuous Hometown Fesival in Illinois.

The third band in the parade, the Rock Falls Marching Band, came after the Harvard Milk Days float.

The Marengo Park District entered a truck and at least one woman passing out candy.

A long line of tractors from days past followed.

The farmers driving the tractors seemed to be having a lot of fun.

The Crystal Lake Strikers entered a teen ensemble.

The young people, named the Kingpins, on this Crystal Lake Strikers float were having a ball.

Grizzy’s Pumpkin Farm continued the Prohibtion theme.

Grizzy’s turned itself into a Speakeasy.

Last year State Senator Dave Syverson worked the crowd in the rain.

This year Dave Syverson sent a car with a yard sign affixed.

The next political entry was for the Republican Party.

All the signs, but Connie Cain’s, on this side of the Republican float are on the ballot in Marengo.

I ran around the float to photograph the signs on its other side.

The only sign on this side not on the ballot is for McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler. Notably missing is a sign for GOP congressional candidate Catalina Lauf.

Campaigning in person was Illinois Supreme Court candidate Mark Curran.

I also caught McHenry County Clerk/Recorder Joe Tirio on the hustings. He was passing out small American flags.

Joe Tirio is behind the Mark Curran volunteer, who is handing out campaign literature. The back of Tirio’s shirt still days, “I won’t hire my wife.”

Strangely, I saw no evidence of the two incumbent Republican County Board members–Jim Kearns and Mike Skala, neither of which currently represent the Marengo area.

Aurora’s Marian Academy band was next.

Probably part of the Joe Tirio contingent, Dan Weise was handing out small American flags next to the band.

More coming.

Sun Returns to Marengo Settlers Days Parade – Part 2, including Libertarians and Republicans — 3 Comments

  1. The “Libertarians” caved when rubber hit the road.

They caved on mask mandates and vaccine mandates.

Aren’t they supposed to support LIBERTY ???

LOL….not when the elites give them a command.

    “Libertarians”….my ass.

  2. How about a ‘Speakeasy’ themed story from the old days?

Gather round kids and I’ll tell a story, from my heady days of bartending in the old Rush Street area, as a poor student living in Chicago.

A tale I heard several times, was this Speakeasy on Wabash that was converted to one of the bawdy clubs 50’s Chicago was famous for.

Now Chicago was a destination for Conventions and were even a big deal when I bartended, but it wasn’t McCormick Place and Hotels that attracted the Conventions, it was the ‘nightlife’ and it’s ‘chrome pole circuit’.

Said converted Speakeasy was the 606 Club owned by some Dem apparatchik, later convicted of Voter Fraud, but was still able to keep his clubhouse for his Dem pals.

It’s supposed to be the site as the story goes, where a young Mass. Pol named Jack Kennedy and one of those Daley fellows, hatched their plan to ‘deliver’ enough Chicago votes for the 60 Election.

    True?

    Who knows.

But it came from several ‘reliable’ drunken sources that I attended, in several old-timey walks of life.

Too add a sidebar, a young publisher who frequented the 606, used it as his template for his new club he opened in 60 called the Playboy Club.

  3. They also caved on their Jesse White for Secretary of State candidacy.
