Twenty-Four Years for Harvard Man fpr Sex Crimes

J. SANTOS NOVA-RIVERA SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that on October 26, 2022, J. Santos Nova-Rivera, 37, of Harvard, Illinois, was sentenced to 24 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Michael Coppedge.

Following a bench trial before Judge Coppedge, Nova-Rivera was found guilty of

  • two counts of Criminal Sexual Assault (Class 1 Felony) and
  • two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 2 Felony).   

Nova-Rivera was sentenced to eight years in the Department of Corrections on each Class 1 Felony. 

The sentences will be served consecutively at 85% and require Nova-Rivera to register as a sex offender for his natural life.

Nova-Rivera was also sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections on each Class 2 Felony. 

Those sentences will be served consecutively to the Criminal Sexual Assault sentences and also require that Nova-Rivera register as a sex offender for his natural life. 

This case was investigated by members of the Harvard Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Tyler Mikan and Ashur Youash.
