Decatur State Rep. Calls for Open Discussion Before Selection of Person to Replace Jim Durkin as Republican Leader

Wtih State Rep. Jim Durkin hanging up his gloves after a disappointing election season, State Rep. Dan Caulkins issued the following:

State Representative Dan Caulkins’ statement on status of House Republican leadership selection process

Decatur, IL – State Representative Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur) is issuing the following statement on the selection process for a new leader of the House Republican caucus.

“The reports that one member of the House Republican caucus has secured enough votes to become the next leader are misleading and are nothing more than a deliberate attempt to create a desired outcome. The truth is the leadership situation is very much in flux.

The reason the House Republicans are undergoing the process of selecting a new leader is because of glaring deficiencies in the previous leadership of our caucus. We are not going to advance as a caucus if we perpetuate the same policies and processes that have directly led to the expansion of the super majority Democrats have enjoyed for far too long.

Our caucus needs new leadership and a new direction. The strong arming and media manipulation are the kind of tactics that have produced an apparent permanent minority caucus in the House. Many if not most of the incoming House Republican caucus members have agreed to an open process where everyone interested in running for Leader would have an opportunity to present their vision for the 103rd General Assembly and beyond.

The old days of the selection process taking place before even one vote is cast are over. We need an open and transparent process and that is what a substantial number of elected Republican representatives are fighting to achieve.”

The rumor mill has Barrington Hills State Rep. Marty McLaughlin in contention for the leadership spot.

  1. This has already been decided, and next Republican superminority leader will be Terry McCombie.

Additionally, state Senator Dan McConchie will be replaced as Senate minority leader by John Curran.

Now I’m looking forward to here defeated McHenry County Republican Party Chairman Jeff Thorsen resigning for losing his county board seat in disgrace.

Same goes for the Kane County Republican Party chair, who saw Republicans on the Kane County Board become a superminority, with Democrats now holding a 16-8 supermajority, plus the Democrat Board Chair.

  2. Tony McCombie?

The blonde lady who was supposedly begged by GOP leaders to stay in the house instead of running for senate against a Republican incumbent?

If true that it “has already been decided” she will be the next house minority leader maybe it is a favor for her not running for senate this year.

Springfield is a rotten place. They say you don’t want to see how sausage and laws get made.

Politics is just bribery and extortion.

    Nasty stuff.

  3. A total debacle for the Republicans.

Republicans just flat did not show up or return the mail in ballots.

  4. You forgot blackmail, e.g., photos taken at parties given by a past GOP leader at which compromising photos were taken.

  5. Jeff Thorsen will have more time to spend on GOP politics after December.

  6. ** photos taken at parties given by a past GOP leader at which compromising photos were taken.**

    Say more…

  7. Exactly. Republicans are losers. Democrats are winners.
The “house minority” and “senate minority leader” don’t matter. They could elect “corned beef sandwich” as their “leader” and they would be none the worse for it. In Illinois, they are in the super-minority in both chambers. They are completely irrelevant.

How many state senators are they going to have? Somewhere between 15 and 20, right? Out of 59. 60 percent is supermajority. They’re in the superminority.
In the state house Dems are supposed to end up with like 77 seats. Out of 118. 60 percent is like 71.

    Governor and lt governor Dem
    AG Dem
    SoS Dem
    Treasurer Dem
    Comptroller Dem
    vv Federal government vv

    Senators 2/2 Dem
    House 14/17 Dem

    IL judicial branch
    Supreme court 5/7 Dem

    It’s a disaster.

It doesn’t matter who they elect as their speaker. And 2024 will be a bloodbath too with the presidential race going on and this being a blue state.

At this point I’m rooting for corned beef sandwich. At least it would be funny, not say stupid things to embarrass the already pathetic Republican Party, or propose ideas that are DOA. Corned beef sandwich would be scandal free and efficient. Corned beef sandwich would not be corrupt, making deals with Dems. Corned beef sandwich would not threaten members from its own party.

    Corned beef sandwich!

In an emergency, you can eat it. It will be useful.

If it makes you mad, you can eat it and won’t be charged with a crime.

    Corned beef sandwich!

Republicans can do a lot worse without it.

  8. Wasn’t that story about the ham just an urban legend? I

heard she had a heart attack, that she would lose and gain a lot of weight rapidly and that’s what damaged her heart.

Maybe drugs didn’t help either idk

    Cal, do you know?

  9. Mr. Lopez, the proper spelling is “ hear”, and no, that won’t happen.
