Pearl Harbor Memories

Here’s one from a Friend of McHenry County Blog about yesterday:

“We honor all the Navy personnel and all who were in Pearl Harbor this sunny  day, early morning in Hawaii, December 7. 1941, when the Japanese launched a surprise air attack.

“I was at the Catlow Theatre on December 7th

“Suddenly the movie stopped, the lights turned on and the owner, Wright Catlow, stood in the center aisle and announced, ‘The Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbor; the movie is over. You can go home.’

“There was not a word said as we left.”

I’m old, but not old enough to remember Pearl Harbor.

I was in utero that day.

And because of that my father was not drafted.

I really don’t know why, but that’s what he told me.

  1. Haven’t seen Pearl Harbor Anniversary news in ever and it’s probably the single most significant event of the past 100 years.

It’s ripples are in the pond we all swim in to this very day.
