UPDATE with DESCRIPTION of MEETING: Flag Fight Settled on 11-6 Vote

Correcting offers this take on what happened at the meeting:

what I saw at the meeting, Cal.

SIT DOWN ALL YOU PECKERS & LISTEN UP WHILE I TELL A GREAT STORY:

-Line 5 should have been removed completely or just shortened to no ceremonial flags may be displayed.

-At one point Mike “Shorty” Shorten began bringing that up. A few other members expressed that was their preference but the 2/3 was a actually compromise – no surprise this “compromise” was not good enough for Democrats anyway, as no compromise is ever good enough and they have no interest in negotiating with Republicans, and none of the Democrats ended up supporting the 2/3 requirement.

-Beuhler told Shorty he was out of order in a polite way. At that point they were discussing an amendment that would have made the flag flying a simple majority which is what the Dems wanted.

-The amendment to make it a simple majority was defeated, and then rather than going back to Shorten’s suggestion to strip the government of the ability to fly any special interest flag, the board went right into voting on the original resolution with the 2/3 language.

-Beuhler did not go back to Shorty to bring up his earlier suggestion and Shorty did not speak up. Huge mistake.

By making it a 2/3 majority, true it is more difficult to fly any ceremonial flag but it is still possible and this is going to come back and hurt Republicans who did not think this through. If their intent is to not fly special flags, why not just say you don’t want special flags? If they’re afraid of the controversy surrounding votes on specific special interest flags, having a 2/3 majority really does nothing to assuage that. It may still come up and you’ll still have to take an up or down vote. And, in the past didn’t all of the Republicans support the Pride flag anyway? If they were afraid to vote no before because of political backlash, you’re trying to tell me they’re all of a sudden going to vote no when there is a 2/3 instead of a simple majority requirement? It doesn’t make sense. It was not well thought out.

They should have just gotten rid of ceremonial flags period. Then they wouldn’t have to worry about these cultural battles because it would have been settled and they’d have a convincing argument that does not appear bigoted or mean-spirited for their voters. “We’re just not going to fly non-gov flags on gov property.” It could have been so simple!

So, whether the board deliberately “caved” as Cindy said or whether they are just ignorant/stupid, they still goofed up big time.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Why did nobody speak out? Why did Beuhler not go back to Shorty? And why did Shorty not say anything? Beuhler can’t be helped. The guy has proved over and over he just doesn’t have what it takes to *not* get rolled by the Democrats. The other people need to listen to me, because I am smart. I know a lot about politics. People told me the gun thingy should not be done or could not be done. I told them it should be done and it will be done. And it was done…

My suggestion for Mike “Shorty” Shorten is that he needs more energy. He needs to start doing multi-joint strength training exercises like the squat and bringing some black tea with him to these meetings so that he has more energy! Tea should make him alert enough while coffee shouldn’t be consumed so late at night. I’m giving Shorten the benefit of a doubt and assuming he just got tired and/or confused. He definitely had the right idea, but I think he just got sleepy or confused about what was happening. Tell Shorty that when he improves his body he will make his mind sharper.

The McHenry County Board passed a resolution concerning flags.

It was stimulated by the contraversy concerning flying the Gay Pride flag.

Gay Pride Flag flying on a McHenry County flagpole.

You can read it below:

Resolution Adopting A Flag Flying and Display Policy for McHenry County in Consideration of U.S. Supreme Court Case Shurtleff V. City of Boston

WHEREAS, the McHenry County Board has the authority to adopt ordinances, resolutions, policies and promulgate rules and regulations that pertain to its government and affairs; and

WHEREAS, on May 2, 2022, the United States Supreme Court issued its 9-0 unanimous opinion in Shurtleff v. City of Boston, 142 S. Ct. 1583 pertaining to the display of flags on a public flagpole; and

WHEREAS, considering Shurtleff v. City of Boston, the McHenry County Board desires to establish a flag flying and display policy.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of McHenry County, Illinois that the Flag Flying and Display Policy as set forth in Exhibit A to this Resolution is hereby adopted; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this policy shall be applicable for all property owned, leased or otherwise controlled by the County today and as may be in the future; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this policy shall be in full force and effect upon adoption; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk is hereby authorized to distribute a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Facilities, Chief of Court Security, County Sheriff and County Administrator.

DATED at Woodstock, Illinois, this 21st day of February, A.D., 2023.

On passage, Flag Flying Resolution passed 11-6 with Republicans voting in favor, except John Reinert, who voted, “No,” and Brian Sager, who did not vote.

The policy referenced in the resolution follows:

Flag Flying and Display Policy

The following policy shall regulate the County flagpoles and flags authorized to be flown or
otherwise displayed on or over County owned, leased, or otherwise controlled buildings and
property:

  1. The County’s flagpoles are not intended to serve as a public forum for private expression by the public;
  2. The flags that the County displays on County flagpoles constitute government speech by the County and that any flags flown on County flagpoles are an expression of McHenry County government’s official sentiment and represent McHenry County’s support of what those flags represent;
  3. The County has a duty pursuant to the Illinois Flag Display Act 5 ILCS 465/1 to display the United States Flag and may also display the MIA flag;
  4. The County may also display the State of Illinois flag and the McHenry County flag on County flagpoles;
  5. Any “ceremonial flags” may only be displayed with the County Board’s approval through the passage, by 2/3 majority, of an ordinance, resolution, or proclamation which shall include language in substantially the following form, “The display of the “ceremonial flag” constitutes government speech by the County. Any “ceremonial flag” flown on County flagpoles are an expression of McHenry County government’s official sentiment and represent McHenry County’s support of what that flag represents.”

UPDATE with DESCRIPTION of MEETING: Flag Fight Settled on 11-6 Vote — 50 Comments

  1. Take down the ‘Faig Flag’.

I see that Homo Sager missed another vote.

  2. The degenerate’s symbol of victory.

You have been conquered and you didn’t even try to resist in any meaningful way.

All while China and Russia watch and wait just over the horizon.

  3. Abram the Kvetch. You are like a little old Jewish lady.

  4. With early voting for the April 4 election beginning today, with vote-by-mail ballots hitting the street, coupled with two highly charged votes at the McHenry County Board on flags and the Second Amendment (both 11-6, and 1 Republican voting with Democrats), it’s not too early to begin thinking of the 2024 election, especially when petition circulation starts in 7 months for next year’s McHenry County Board elections, with the primary on March 19.

Admittedly, thinking about next year’s elections will begin in earnest as soon as the polls close on April 4.

Under the new 9×2 County Board configuration, each of the 9 districts will have 1 board seat up for election. McHenry County Board used the vote totals from 2022 to determine which seats are 2-year seats, meaning they will be up next year:

    1: Theresa Meshes (D)
    2: John Reinert (R)
    3: Eric Hendricks (R)
4: Mike Shorten (R), won by 23 votes last November
    5: Kelli Wegener (D)
    6: Carl Kamienski (R)
    7: Lou Ness (D)
    8: Tracie Von Bergen (R)
9: Jim Kearns (R), won by 96 votes last November

The Board currently has a 13-5 Republican supermajority, and of the 5 Democrats, 3 will face voters next year in Districts 1, 5 & 7.

Of the Republicans who could be vulnerable, it’s an easy guess, with Mike Shorten’s District 4 in play and his narrow 23 vote margin last fall. Other Republican targets could be in Districts 2, 3, and 9.

For the Democrats to flip the County Board, they will have to net a flip of 5 seats (4, if the Democrats can flip the county board chairmanship and the tie-breaking vote that comes with it), while defending all 3 of their incumbents. Four Republican-held districts appear to be in play, but flipping Districts 6 or 8 appear to be long shots to do.

It does raise a question, is there a Democrat strong enough to challenge County Board Chairman Mike Buehler (R, Crystal Lake)?

All this against the backdrop some of the Republicans on the County Board could face primary challenges in March, but unlike 2022, both parties have 7 1/2 months until election day, and 6 months before early voting begins for the November 5 general election, with vote-by-mail ballots hitting the streets.

Not to sound like a doomer here, but 2024 election prospects are pretty dim for Illinois Republicans in November of 2024. No matter whom the Democrats and Republicans nominate for the presidency, Illinois will not be a presidential battleground for the state’s 19 electoral votes. No U.S. Senate seat election, and with 16 of 17 U.S. House seats initially rated for 2024 as “strong/safe (insert party who holds seat)”, plus the likelihood of an Abortion-on-Demand constitutional amendment topping next year’s general election ballot, and Republicans will first have to motivate their voters to turn out on election day (or in early voting or vote-by-mail).

This leaves Democrats with the momentum to grow, particularly in McHenry County where Republicans hold supermajority county board control, plus all countywide elected offices. We’ve all seen how DuPage and Lake counties in the Chicago suburbs have turned blue, McHenry County flipping of seats/offices will be a big jewel in the Democrats’ target list.

And what may happen to Democratic prospects if Chicago is the host city for the Democratic National Convention? Those who were around/active in 1996 have seen it before, as Illinois Republicans’ began their steady fade in the fall of 1996, and in election cycles to come after the peak/noontide of Republicans controlling all constitutional offices and BOTH houses of the Illinois General Assembly.

Something to think about, especially once April 4 comes and goes, and plan in earnest this spring and summer.

  5. YOUR BETTER START PUTTING UP THE ITALIAN THE SWEDISH FLAGS AND ALL OTHERS.. IMMEDIATELY YOU PLAY STUPID… YOU GONNA GET STUPID.. SINCE YOU DON’T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT OUR AMERICAN RED WHITE AND BLUE STANDS FOR ALL … NOW YOU BETTER GET MORE FLAG POLES ON ORDER!D.A.S

  6. I’ll explain Cindy’s comment according to me and what I saw at the meeting, Cal.

  7. Hate to say I told you so.

    Mike Shorts will not disappoint.

He is a chameleon blowing in the wind with no convictions other than what gets him into a seat.

    ANY seat.

In over his head, 20 years ago he believed he could be governor when launching a campaign as an independent.

    So, what is he, really?

I will remind you once again, of a quote from him in the Herald only months ago when asked about taxes in McHenry County.

Herald Question Posed: Do you support decreasing local property taxes? If so, how would the county make up the difference?

Answered: Given the current economic conditions, I don’t believe that decreasing the county portion of residents property taxes is a feasible possibility.

Soo, while McHenry county of the 102 counties in Illinois is always ranked 2-3 in highest of taxes in the State, and in the top 100 of the 3200 counties in the country; Mike Shorten is okay with that.

    Those are his words.

It was actually a smart move on his behalf.

Playing both sides of the aisle, was able to appease those on entitlements, pension grabbers, and “gubment” employees, who have no problem with high taxes.

That and siding with entrenched PAC members. So, hey, you got a guy who is perfectly fine paying $8k for a 1600′ foot house in McHenry County, while that same house in Tennessee would garner less than a third of that in taxes.

    Slanderous and am I liable?

I think not when using his own words.

    Bring it.

  8. To date, the best non-Old Glory flag raising, was the Martian Ambassador impaling the movie President, with the Martian Flag in Mars Attacks!.

  9. Paul, you’re sounding more and more like a McHenry County Board District 4 Republican primary challenger.

  10. Geneva-based blogger Jeff Ward used this quote from Abraham Lincoln in an article today which could apply here, not only to Mike Shorten but others on the McHenry County Board:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”

We do have to remember, County Board Member Mike Shorten, along with several other County Board members like Eric Hendricks, are only into their 3rd month of membership on the Board.

Given Correcting’s excellent analysis, what happened Tuesday on the flag issue is not only rookie mistakes.

Many don’t like being lableled “homophobe” and/or “transphobe”, and at the Committee of the Whole meeting last week, Board Member Jim Kearns didn’t let fellow Board Member Gloria Van Hof get away with saying the reason for the flag resolution was due to homophobes. If that was the pressure working on County Board Members Tuesday night, only they can answer it.

    FWIW.

  11. As a proud anti-lgbt, i salute Barthel and Correcting for their astute commentaries.

I do take high umbrage to the policy (para. 3) as worded:

“The County has a duty pursuant to the Illinois Flag Display Act 5 ILCS 465/1 to display the United States Flag and may also display the MIA flag;”

There is no such thing as as ‘MIA’ flag….. i think they mean the POW flag.

Please read this eye opening account of the hundreds of US POWs betrayed by the country and frauds like McCain:

    https://www.unz.com/article/mccain-and-the-pow-cover-up/

  12. Lopez, Gloria “van Hof” is a marxist Antifa witch.

She’d be tarred and feathered in a healthy county.

Her diatribes about Kyle Rittenhouse, Putin, Matt Goetz, Pope John Paul 2, Rand Paul, Darren Bailey, Gary Rabine, etc., social media are my evidence

  13. Per ABC News April 23, 2021

“U.S. missions overseas can once again fly the LGBT Pride flag on their official flagpoles, according to an internal State Department cable obtained Friday by ABC News.

The policy, announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, repeals his predecessor Mike Pompeo’s effective ban on Pride flags or others from flying at U.S. embassies and consulates.”

This would seem to show favoritism toward particular people and DISCRIMINATION against others.

    Namely straights and heterosexuals.

To be fair, and not discriminate, if a government entity anywhere in the U.S., including DC, wants to show a flag representing some group then it must show a flag for the other group.

Perhaps Biden could ask some American group or groups to create a heterosexual flag for consideration to be the US flag for heterosexuals.

  14. IF Trump runs in 2024 it is going to upset everyone’s election calculus.

Democrats will show up in unprecedented droves to keep the Orange Lunatic from ever stepping inside the Oval Office again.

This will affect all downballot races regardless of whether or not Illinois is in the game.

The people who are infrequent voters and who will be the ones showing up this time don’t think that far into it. They will just be fired up to keep Trump out.

Blue Tsunami raises all the boats.

  15. Worse yet, is “Van hof,” “cough,” if you were to ask her, I would suspect she would say got elected due to her insightful and particular knowledge of government policies and acute acumen for being fiscally responsible and having nothing to do with skin shade.

How crazy is it that one allows themselves to subscribe to such narcissism while having to convince, even yourself, that you are qualified?

Elected by an overwhelming white constituent base in McHenry County that perhaps, still, will surrender their “white guilt vote” in order to feel snuggly at night.

Is it not the “racism” that she often subscribes to that is ultimately what got her elected?

Manchurian candidate perhaps or merely someone playing identity politics?

If she would care to debate, I am more than willing to entertain her.

  16. BS Science is more proof of IL stupidity. Tell us BS. What came out of the Dominion v FOX News discovery? Fools like you that have no clue about election corruption play right into the hands of those that are psy op’ing you.

The Fag Flag has no place on municipal flagpoles. What have LGBTQABC123 morons done to advance our republic? Nothing.

  17. Thanks and your write-up about the districts and stuff was good info.

We know the county is trending left.

But if Republicans think they’re going to stand for nothing they’re going to lose.

If Republicans become just like Democrats in hopes of defeating Democrats, there’s no point.

Eventually if the county gets so blue or perhaps in certain districts you may need to get people running as Democrats just like how many Democrats have ran as Republicans in the past if that’s the only way to get elected, but that is a very different strategy than continuing to be a Republican but acting like a left-lib!

You just need to think about strategy better.

    Nobody thinks about strategy anymore.

I think Democrats do, but Republicans they don’t have the smart people.

I call them the stupid party.

We have the psycho party and the stupid party!

Democrats want to murder you, and Republicans … they are stupid!

That’s the political paradigm or zeitgeist.

One group is murderous thugs, the other side … they are retarded.

    What wins?

Strong and organized or weak and dumb and disorganized?

Republicans need smart people and tough people.

Or things are going to get REALLY bad!

That’s what I like about Kearns.

Hes the beast from the east.

He just don’t take their crap.

    He’s awesome.

  18. Hi Correcting, you’re welcome.

More metrics came out during the day concerning U.S. House races as Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball released their initial ratings.

Pretty much matches Cook Political Report with Amy Walter initial ratings for the 17 U.S. House districts in Illinois, with the exception of IL-14, which Sabato initially rates as “Likely Democrat”.

Both Cook and Sabato rated IL-17 as “Leans Democrat”.

All other districts rated as “Safe/Strong (insert party name holding seat)” including the 4 districts for McHenry County:

    IL-09: Safe/Strong Democrat Jan Shackowsky
    IL-10: Safe/Strong Democrat Brad Schneider
    IL-11: Safe/Strong Democrat Bill Foster
    IL-16: Safe/Strong Republican Darin LaHood

Any Republican running for Congress within a McHenry County congressional district next year is a fool’s errand, short of a retirement.

  19. The American flag represents a country.

The POW flag represents those fighting for our country.

The LGBT flag represents people IN our country doing squat thrusts in the cucumber patch.

The LGBT flag has no place on a government building, a military unit, a school, or anywhere that it would be inappropriate to discuss whitewashing the picket fence.

    Which is basically everywhere.

If local government can’t stand against this idiocracy, then we must send a message.

Remove every rainbow flag you see.

Not because you’re intolerant but because it’s unimportant.

Where ‘ol one-eye sees the optometrist doesn’t matter – what matters is that this country doesn’t stand in your way.

In America, you can crash the custard truck anywhere you like.

Without America, the L’s, the G’s, the B’s, and especially those pesky T’s would be stoned to death. Grow up!

The world doesn’t care who’s twinkie you fill.

    I’ll see myself out…

  20. Re 3:16 PM

Republicans have at least two persons other than Trump, one announced and one pending, who would beat anybody that’s sniffing around for the job in the Democrat Party. DeSantis and Haley. The Democrats have nobody viable to run. Biden is gone. Democrats don’t want him in 2024. Harris was on a teevee show recently and hinted that if Biden does not run than she will for presidency. An absolute doofus, dope. Dumber than Biden by a wide margin. Would Democrats nationally want Pritzker or Newsome? No way. Democrats have a lot of very old and tired people that wanted to be president in the past. Cherokee Liz, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Rodman Clinton. Would they try these people again? Or draft Michelle? Pete Buttigege?

DeSantis and Haley would be a great ticket. Proven leaders and winners.

  21. Bred Winner, you’re leaving out several other prominent Democrats who are waiting in the weeds in the event President Biden decides not to seek a 2nd term.

Originally, the President said he’d announce his decision by the end of February.

Now, that decision has been pushed back to April-ish, and coincidentally, Biden’s poll numbers are positive for the first time since the Inauguration.

In addition to Illinois’ own Governor JB Pritzker, California Governor Gavin Newsom and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy have expressed interest in running for POTUS next year if Biden does not make the race.

Both Newsom and Pritzker have been making the rounds across the country.

Democrats have more than Senators Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren to worry about running for POTUS.

Fortunately, Warren’s Senate term is up next year.

  22. BJ and Newsum have run Illinois and California into the toilet.

Is that a prerequisite for President?

  23. Right now Trump is polling at 25% to 30% of the GOP likely primary voters so if there are more than 3 or 4 other people he will have the inside track.

Also he can run as a third party candidate and really screw things up.

The Democrats can pick someone out of the phone book and win in that environment.

So Republicans should be hoping that Trump is indicted someplace as that is probably the only thing that could derail him.

  24. I’m not at all convinced that whatever anybody has in indictments will amount to anything that sticks or materially affects him.

Although a steady flow of “bad orange man” stories will create a headwind.

But then that’s something he always has had to fight anyway. He’s always had to fight himself to win.

I’m pretty sure he will run 3rd party if he has to.

Certainly there’s lots of bumpkins that will decide to go down with the ship.

In the above scenario, hope that Biden and Kamala do run.

Still might have a chance if we don’t do crazy.

  25. Wow. such brilliant words and prophesying by BS…

truly nobody has ever posted an idea like that before. So revolutionary. So brave.

    “blue wave, orange man bad”

Maybe he can tell us who will win the election in Nigeria since he’s such a clairvoyant.

Cal has sources that say Peter Obi! But what does BS see in his crystal ball???

  26. Re 12:13 AM.

Yep. A Democrat ticket again for Biden/Harris would be a giant plus for the Republican ticket.

Of course our mostly corrupt Pravda style mainstream media will be providing a lot of cover for Biden/Harris.

They will hide, slant, obfuscate, omit relevant FACTS about the gross incompetence of this duo to try again to pull the wool over the eyes of uniformed chump voters.

  27. I’m really glad they caught this before they started flying flags with a big Gerbil on it.

    Gotta draw the line somewhere.

  28. I have read a lot of comments, some totally degrading of a small slice of the American population, as if their existence goes against the norms. Some of these people are talented in their own right, but because of prejudice against ANYONE WHO IS DIFFERENT THAN YOU, poses a scenario that LGBTQ community will poison the minds of children! Or, it says in the Bible that this kind of relationship is wrong. SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS THAT! While the Old Testament is the basis of our moral teachings, the NEW Testament seems to relax the ideas of “taboo” relationships, according to the Christian Testament. Show me where it says that a man cannot lay with a man and woman cannot lay with a woman!

The U S has been referred to as a “MELTING POT OF CULTURES”, but our history tells us that we as Americans, tend to look away when someone is different from us. 400 years of the Slave Trade created a status that kept “Negroes in their place” until the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights act of 1965. and still, in some states, African Americans are turned away from the polls or made to wait in hot weather or cold, rainy, snow, whatever, AND THEY WAIT BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE! No one can take that right away!!!!! New laws in many states do everything and anything to curtail these rights! States that have passed this legislation, that bblatantly discriminate against RACE, CREED, CULTURE AND FAITH!

The Gay/LQBTQ Community does not want to pollute the gene pool, folks! They don’t want to create little kids who, at a very early age, learn how not to discriminate against others. These people, who may be different from you and me, still deserve respect as human beings and American Citizens! For the most part, this Community is very much a peaceful group of American citizens, just trying to get SOME recognition of the problems that stand in their life way. And, flying the Multi-colored LGBTQ flag DOES give these human beings (In spite of what you might think), who deserve the same rights and considerations that Republicans seem to think that the LGBTQ community is not worthy! That is blatant discrimination, based upon the culture of the LGBTQ community and the way Republicans view it! They seem to think their poop don’t stink!

The thing about the flag: As far as I am concerned, the LGBTQ flag deserves to be flown from all McHenry County Government facilities. Doing so will make certain that McHenry County and its municipalities within, will not discriminate in enforcing laws of the municipalities, the county, the State of Illinois, and the Constitution of the United States of America, documents that INSIST that “All men are created EQUAL! That they are endowed by the Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Sounds to me, the LGBTQ flag deserves to fly with the American Flag,

The state Flag, the MIA-POW flag.

These flags are symbols of our country, of our sadness over lost lives, and the opportunity to live free.

The only flag that should never fly at all, ANYWHERE, is the MAGA flag!

I’m afraid that if the Orange Shitgibbon should run, his flag would not only say “MAKE AMERICA GRAT AGAIN”, but the symbol would have to be crossed AR-15s with 2 extended magazines.

Based upon that, Should sheriff Tadelmann’s flag be similar?

What might happen if an attack came here in McHenry County?

Would the sheriff just go through the motions?

After less than one month in office, he BLATANTLY refused to honor or enforce HD 5471 (The Semi-Auto weapon ban and related ammoban), which, plainly, leaves me feeling a little less safe!

Will local police enforce HD 5471?

    SHOULD THEY?

YOU BET YOUR SWEET BUTT THEY SHOULD!

  29. Romans 1:26-27 says:

“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”

    1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says:

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

  30. We went from “consenting adults want to love each other in peace” to we need to dance in front of children in strippers outfits and teach them about masturbation and if you disagree you’re a bigot who should be murdered and you have no right to express your opinion “anywhere” but our flag needs to be flown on government property and we are going to take people’s guns away.

That’s how these people actually think. That guy just told you.

  31. Re 11:20 AM.

Difference is fine. If some, a group, with a “particular” type of difference want to create a symbol to “represent” that difference, so that is fine also here in the U.S. They are free to put it anywhere on their property, body, business they own, etc that is privately owned. The question is does this group merit a “special privilege” to display that symbol on government property which represents all groups, all lifestyles, all peoples. The symbol being a flag to be on a pole or standard at the government building.

Supporters of wanting to put up a flag for a group with their own identity, interests, whatever, need to prove that THEY deserve special recognition and special privilege to fly their symbol on a flag on government property and what benefit(s) would be attained for all other peoples not in that group.

  32. “The other people need to listen to me, because I am smart. I know a lot about Politics”

Sure Fredo, but ‘that’s the way Pop wanted it’.

  33. Am I seeing this correctly?

Did Reinert vote in line with the Democrats?

  34. Yes, Reinert voted with the Democrats on the flag resolution, and I don’t recall him saying anything prior to the vote stating opposition, nor do I recall him saying anything on the resolution at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Feb 16.

If Reinert issued a press release explaining his vote, Cal would have published it.

Next meeting of Algonquin Township Republicans may need an “accountability session” calling on Precinct Committeeperson Reinert to explain his “NO” vote on flag resolution(?).

  35. Re 3:12 PM Feb 24

An old saying was never more true in these times.

“Give them an inch and they will take a mile”. Not an inch such as in tiny bites, nibbles but huge alligator or crocodile chunks.

Look at the details of the dishonestly and grossly misnamed Bill written by Democrats in the Illinois Legislature and passed and then signed by the Illinois Governor.

    Keeping Children Safe and Healthy.

It would require teaching sex information and sexual deviancy to children starting in Kindergarten and using very explicit words and terms.

This type of information should be the domain of parents to teach their children when they deem the child is ready.

  36. That is interesting. I totally overlooked that!

    You are correct.

Reinert did vote with the Democrats.

Not sure how I missed that.

BUT go back; watch the tape.

I’m 99 percent sure Reinert was one of the members who said he was against special interest flags being flown period, so if that’s the case his motivation may have been much different than Democrats, in that Reinert could have been saying 2/3 does not go far enough — that he doesn’t want special flags flying period.

I think it was Reinert who said he was against it and then almost right after that Ness implied people who do not want the pride flag are doing so out of homophobia (Democrats also snapped at Greeno after she pushed back on Van Hof’s stupid assertion that the second amendment was made for slaveowners, Van Hof needs to learn about the history of marginalized groups USING firearms to defend themselves, I’d recommend studying the Black Panthers) and Ness said as a member of the LGBT community she was offended.

Reinert is one of the least offensive members on the board (along with Gottemoller).

I know many here don’t like him because they think he’s a RINO and because of his signature fiasco years ago, but I’m just talking about his personality.

He is undeniably very friendly and agreeable.

Acting like he is some kind of villain is just gross behavior.

He explained exactly why he was against flying non-gov flags on gov property and that little witch Ness tried ascribing malicious and untrue motives to him.

    Absolute garbage behavior from Ness.

She should be ashamed of treating her colleague that way, but I know she isn’t.

It was not *only* Reinert who indicated he was in favor of not flying special flags period.

I’m pretty sure Kamienski did too, as did either Kunkle or Hendricks (or maybe both?) and there were probably others who would have gone with that.

But ultimately these Republicans all (with the apparent exception of Reinert) voted for the compromise 2/3 bill, which as I said earlier is still going to cause headaches for them.

As I pointed out, Shorten tried to make a motion to get rid of line 5 of the resolution.

This came after long debate with Democrats whining like little babies about how bad 2/3 is and Republicans explaining they were doing so to try to compromise with Dems.

Shorty looked like he was fed up and was ready to play hardball.

Ok you don’t want 2/3 for your special flags, then we won’t have special flags at all.

I was happy he was going to crush them… but then CHAIRMAN BEUHLER made him stand down and the question never came up again like I said in the write up!

    What a blunder.

That’s why I said Shorty needs more energy and Beuhler can never be trusted.

Overall the meeting was lit though. Watch it.

    The public speakers were good.

The guy in the freemason hat who called Pritzker a pig and kept swearing and told the mommies demand action group to go back to Chicago where they came from was funny.

And contrary to some trolls, Catalina Lauf did not gain weight.

    You’re just being a hater!

    We know this.

    We have the documents.

    Fat?

    No.

Actually fat women are JEALOUS of Catalina.

  37. The bred winner’s posts are most usually short, concise, intelligent and without blathering.

  38. ^ You can watch the next *four hour meeting* and give a rundown of it, jealous loser bred winner.

Until then stick to your Fox News talking points about Joe Biden being a dummy you old man.

Funny how you NEVER have ANYTHING to say about LOCAL politics but can tell us Joe Biden plagiarized something in 1988. Wow. Groundbreaking stuff!

    Old stupid man.

    Go get another booster.

  39. It only takes 2/3 vote to suspend the rules….

    In any event.

    There was no compromise.

  40. “it only takes 2/3 to suspend the rules.”

    Explain how that is relevant.

    What are you talking about?

If they would have passed a resolution to completely do away with flying special flags then they’d have to abide by that unless another resolution was passed to overturn that one (which probably wouldn’t happen for years, if/when Dems take over the board).

Rules are what govern the board, how meetings are done.

The subject of this post is the resolution itself, so what does suspending rules have to do with that???

    “There was no compromise.”

They said it was a compromise, Jeff.

    It’s on tape!

More than one person said that.

    Why are you lying?

Is it cuz your Republican underlings messed up?

So you’re on this blog to run interference for them?

Maybe if you were a better party chairman you would have coached your people before the vote.

I’ve defended you in the past, but your comment is nonsense.

It’s absurd and anybody who watched the meeting knows that.

    I watched the meeting.

You’d still be on the board if you didn’t lose your election to some kooky Democrat.

  41. It’s the principle of the matter: government should only fly government flags, not private special interest flags, which means they shouldn’t be displaying Chicago Bears flags or gay pride flags.

It’s a simple concept to understand and if you struggle with it you need to see a neurologist to get a diagnosis on your brain.
