Once passed out of committee, the bill(s) will go to the Illinois House Floor and, if passed, will then go through the same process in the Illinois Senate.

Parental Rights
HB 29 – This bill punishes parents for disciplining their child. If a parent “transmits any verbal or visual message” intended to cause emotional distress to their child, he or she can be charged with parental bullying. If convicted, the parent would have to pay court costs and any fine imposed by the court. The fine would be placed in escrow until the child turns 18, at which time he or she would be able to purchase a certificate of deposit with the monies.

Pronouns
HB 1596 – Replaces gender pronouns (him, her, he, she, etc.) with a gender-neutral noun (example: the person, the child, the minor) in numerous Acts in Illinois Statutes. Also, changes “biological” references (example: changes “biological parent” to “birth parent.”)

Drugs
HB1 – Legalizes psychedelic mushrooms, LSD, and other hallucinogens. The premise is that the war on drugs has actually harmed communities and obscured the “natural healing” power of these drugs for those with mental health issues and others in the marketplace. Therefore, these drugs need to be legalized for all the good they can do, as has been done in other (liberal) states such as Oregon, Washington, Colorado, etc.) Just as we were sold the lie that marijuana is “medicine,” they want to convince us that hallucinogenic drugs are as well.

HB 2807, to bring ranked-choice voting for presidential primary delegate elections, is on the agenda today for the House Elections and Ethics Committee.
Same for HB 1170, which will expand the period of time for an established political party to schedule its biennial county conventions to range from 29 to 50 days after the primary election.

I can tell people on this blog didn’t read the synopsis of the bill.
Your logic is flawed: we already elect Democrats, so we don’t need RCV to elect Democrats since we already do that.
Our legislature and the people we send to congress are overrepresented by Dems.
Our statewide positions are all Dems.
Our supreme court is Dem.
The bill is not giving us RCV across the board it’s just for the presidential primary lol
A key provision is to give the party the ability to switch from proportional representation to winner take all.
My guess is they’re mixing these two things up to obfuscate the issue.
Going for just winner take all would seem like a step backwards in terms of these “democracy” people but by throwing in the RCV they think they’re taking a step to becoming more democratic.
But they aren’t.
This is all designed so Pritzker can get a larger chunk of delegates than he would get under the current rules.
Nobody is even asking how proportional representation would work combined with RCV.
Doesn’t make sense to me.
