Looking at the Democrats Budget – Focusing on the $1 Club

As usual, when I look at a budget bill, I start at the back.

In years past, one could find the really bad stuff there.

Not so this year.

There are reappropriations for water and sewer projects and storm water projects down there.

Moving into grants to private enterprises, I found one that makes me wonder why it was included:

  • $2 (yes, $2) for Joseph Academy, Inc.

Why didn’t the legislator who inserted this just hand over a $2 bill?

And an even smaller one

  • $1 to the Village of Percy for all costs associated with 3 infrastructure improvements, roads, sewer and water 4 improvements, and/or sidewalks.

There are more for a buck to North Aurora, Chrisman, Winfield, Curran, Bollingbrook, Kangley, Mattoon, Amboy, Wayne, Farrington Township, Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association, Venedy, Oakdale, Columbia, Cahokia, Greenville, Spaulding, Heyworth, Access to Care, Cookseville, Chenoa, Seatonville, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, Shumway, Stephenson County, Oswego Park District, Ready Set Ride, Carbondale, Bond County Humane Society, Schorsch Village Improvement Association, Hamel, St. Charles, Kendall County Fair Association, New Baden, New Lenox, Lake Zurich, Warren, Ogden, Ludlow Community Consolidated School District #142, Mascoutah Fire Department, DuPage County, Carol Stream, University High School, DuPage County (again), Manchester, Golden (a village not a quote from Rod Blagojevich), Buckley, Free Mason Central Lodge #3, Forsyth, Kinney Fire Protection District, Chicago Park District, Bethel New Life, Inc., Edward G. Irvin Foundation, McCook, North Suburban YMCA, Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization, Gordie’s Foundation, Inc., Nauvoo, Cass County, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Dental Medicine, Highland Park, Gallatin County, Friendship House of Christian Service, Youth Service Project, Fellowship Connection Community Center, North Berwyn Park District, Rock Island.

Locally,

  • Barrington is in for $1,987 for a repaving project
  • $1,393,to Kane County for road or other capital improvements
  • $1,767 for Lake in the Hills Sunset Park
  • $125 for Barrington Township for road improvements

What is the purpose for these mini-grants?

St. Mary’s Church, location unknown, is getting $6,631 for infrastructure improvements. So much for separation of church and state.

More coming.
