As usual, when I look at a budget bill, I start at the back.
In years past, one could find the really bad stuff there.
Not so this year.
There are reappropriations for water and sewer projects and storm water projects down there.
Moving into grants to private enterprises, I found one that makes me wonder why it was included:
- $2 (yes, $2) for Joseph Academy, Inc.
Why didn’t the legislator who inserted this just hand over a $2 bill?
And an even smaller one
- $1 to the Village of Percy for all costs associated with 3 infrastructure improvements, roads, sewer and water 4 improvements, and/or sidewalks.

- $1,767 for Lake in the Hills Sunset Park
- $125 for Barrington Township for road improvements
What is the purpose for these mini-grants?
St. Mary’s Church, location unknown, is getting $6,631 for infrastructure improvements. So much for separation of church and state.
