McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler (R, Crystal Lake) appointed Carolyn Schofield (R, Crystal Lake) to the McHenry County Mental Health Board (MCMHB) to fill the unexpired term of former McHenry County Board Member Dr. Paula Yensen (D, Lake in the Hills), who resigned from the MCMHB at the end of July.

Schofield’s appointment took place at the August 15 regular meeting of the McHenry County Board.

The term Schofield will serve expires on December 1, 2024.

Schofield will be the McHenry County Board’s liaison, and under the rules of the McHenry County Board, the governing board of the MCMHB, the County Board’s liaison to the MCMHB does not have to be a member of the McHenry County Board.

Schofield brings McHenry County Board experience to the MCMHB, serving two non-consecutive terms on the McHenry County Board, 2012-2016 and 2018-2022, serving her last two years elected by her peers as the McHenry County Board vice-chairman.

Schofield also ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for the 66th District state representative nomination in 2016 and 2020, and for lieutenant governor in the 2022 Republican primary as the running mate to former state Senator Paul Schimpf (R, Waterloo).

Schofield, a cancer survivor, currently works part-time as a legislative assistant to 33rd Legislative District state Senator Don DeWitte (R, St. Charles) at his district office in West Dundee.

According to MCMHB Executive Director Leonetta Rizzi, Schofield’s formal orientation to the MCMHB will take place today (August 21). Schofield will participate at the August regular meeting of the MCMHB at 6PM CDT on Tuesday, August 22.
