Wonder Lake Fentanyl Death Leads to Fourteen Prison Years for Cook County Drug Dealer

BELLWOOD MAN SENTENCED TO FOURTEEN YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE OFFENSE OF DRUG-INDUCED HOMICIDE

On February 20, 2024, Patrick D. Kenneally, the State’s Attorney of McHenry County, announced that Dion Luster, a 48-year-old resident of Bellwood, Illinois, was sentenced to fourteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to the Class X Felony charge of Drug Induced Homicide.

The Honorable Judge Tiffany Davis handed down the sentence.

On July 14, 2020, a man died of a fentanyl overdose in Wonder Lake, Illinois.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit investigated the man’s acquisition of the fatal drugs.

They learned that the man traveled with his girlfriend to Chicago to buy the drugs.

The Narcotics Unit worked with the Chicago DEA High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Task Force to identify Luster as the supplier of the fentanyl that killed the man.

Luster is a convicted felon who has a history of narcotics and weapon offenses.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office continues to prosecute Cook County drug dealers when they supply fatal drugs to McHenry County residents.

Under truth in sentencing, Mr. Luster will serve 75% of his sentence.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit for conducting a thorough investigation that resulted in bringing justice to a tragedy.

  1. Way to go ASA Brian Miller, 14 years for Dion, he can tell his homies in Bellwood to stay far away from here. Kim Foxx aint in charge.

    She ask for less time for murder out there than what Dion did.
