From the McHenry County Republican Party:
With bonds being paid off soon, McHenry County Conservation District taxpayers will see its tax rate cut by 60%.
But, the MCCD Board doesn’t want that to happen.
In a fall referendum, the District seeks to capture a major part of the upcoming automatic tax rate cut and transfer it to its operating fund.
After hearing about the proposed 33% operating tax rate increase, if voters approve waiving the Property Tax Cap, the Executive Committee of the McHenry County Republican Party voted to oppose passage of the referendum.
This is the GOP’s second attempt to cut property taxes.
The first was in support of replacing real estate tax support for the Mental Health Board with a sales tax. A referendum to accomplish that was approved in an April referendum.
County Board Republicans have promised to eliminate the property tax levy for the Mental Health Board in next year’s budget.
