Local author of ghostly teen novel to hold Halloween book signing at Ethereal Confections on The Square
A ghost from the American Revolution will make a Halloween appearance at Ethereal Confections between the pages of local author Rich Rostron’s novel, “The Ghost of Lexington and Concord.”
Rostron will sign copies of the book for those who purchase a copy at the discount price of $10 from 2 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.
The book is an adventure story of an unhappy team of three middle school students who run into a ghost while on a field trip to the site of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Due to the chance encounter, they are challenged to solve a 248-year-old mystery. They’ll also have to work together if they hope to survive.
This is Rostron’s second novel of historical fiction. The last, published in 2022, was titled “The Burning Sea of Iron Bottom Bay.”
“With the last novel, a WWII US Navy veteran moves in with his great-grandson and shares his experiences from the war with the boy and his friend,” said Rostron. “The American Revolution was a little too long ago for a relative to tell the story. But, when I took a research trip to New England, I guess you could say the idea came to my that a ghost could share the historical account.”
In both books, the historical aspect is only part of the story; teens living now are confronted with challenges that, other than those of a spectral nature, common among teens today.
“It was about the time that I was in junior high that I discovered a passion for history,” said Rostron. “I’ve written these books because I want to share that passion with teens today.”
Both books are available on Amazon.com in paperback, hard cover and Kindle. “The Burning Sea of Iron Bottom Bay” is also available as an audio book. Rostron said he hopes to create an audio version of “The Ghost of Lexington and Concord.”
Ethereal Confections is at 140 Cass St., Woodstock, IL.
