From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:
On November 1, 2024, at approximately 1:10 a.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District
(MTFPD) was dispatched to a report of a fire in a townhouse in the 1100 block of Armistead Lane
in McHenry.
Fire companies arrived within seven minutes to find fire venting from the two-car garage of an occupied two-story, multiple-family dwelling.
Crews initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while searching for occupants within the fire unit.
Additional crews checked the adjacent units for fire extension.
The occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury prior to the arrival of the fire companies.
Smoke detectors were present in the unit and operational at the time of the fire.
The fire unit is uninhabitable.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
The MTFPD activated the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System to the Box Level, which brought Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda, Wonder Lake, and Woodstock Fire Departments to the scene.
Additional agencies backfilled the MTFPD firehouses, answering several additional emergencies while crews were battling the fire.
MTFPD investigators are investigating the fire.
At the time of this release, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
