Marengo Fire Responds to Tractor Incident on Kishwaukee Valley Road

On December 9, 2024, at 5:07 p.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the 20400 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road for a reported tractor incident involving a trapped individual.

Upon arrival, firefighters located an adult male in the driver’s seat of a medium-sized tractor, pinned under a collapsed utility pole.

The pole had brought down electrical wires, creating a potential hazard, and firefighters proceeded with caution while awaiting ComEd to confirm the lines were de-energized.

It appeared the tractor had struck a guide wire, causing the utility pole to topple over.

ComEd crews arrived shortly after and confirmed the power to the lines had been disconnected.

Once the scene was deemed safe, firefighters worked to free the man from under the utility pole.

It is believed the man had been trapped for approximately 45 minutes before being discovered by a family member.

Paramedics evaluated the man at the scene.

He reported no injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

“Given the totality of the situation, this was the best outcome possible,” said Fire Chief John Kimmel. “Our training and teamwork were critical to achieving a positive outcome in this incident. We are glad he is back home and healthy.”
