From the Cary Fire Protection District:

On Saturday, January 4, at 3:14 p.m., the Cary Fire Protection District responded to a reported accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence in the 10-15 block of Fawn Ridge Drive in Oakwood Hills.

The first police officer to arrive on the scene quickly rendered aid to the adult male patient by securing a tourniquet to control bleeding from a wound to a lower extremity.

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and continued patient care.

Due to the severity of the injury, a medical helicopter was requested.

The patient was transported to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital by ambulance.

From there, he was airlifted by Mercyhealth REACT to Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford for advanced medical treatment of his serious injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation by the Oakwood Hills Police Department.
