Mike Royko used to write columns about the names written in on election days
Mickey Mouse usually got the most.
Then, Illinois politicians, Democrats under Mike Madigan, starting requiring people to register their intent to run as a write-in with the County Clerk.
So much for a public record of people’s showing their dissatisfaction with a particular politician or elected official through the ridicule of a write-in of a fictitious character.
First, it was two weeks before Election Day, if memory serves me correctly.
Now, it is two months before Election Day.
Since the main Election Day is April 1st, that means today is the deadline for such candidacies.
