The Illinois Community College Board has announced grants to support mental health programs in colleges across the state.
Locally, McHenry County College scored $118,788, a bit less than most other institutions like the College of Lake County, which were awarded $120,000.
Elgin Community College, which serves the District 300 part of McHenry County, seems not to have applied, because it received nothing.
Harper, which serves the Barrington School District was $301 short of the typical $120,000 grant.
The grant objectives are follows
- Develop and expand peer support programs.
- Continue to develop the number of students served through local partnerships to meet the statutorily established 1:1250 counselor to student ratio.
- Develop and expand mental health services targeting gaps in services, with an emphasis on underserved students.
- Develop Medicaid and other reimbursement procedures for mental health services.
