Crystal Lake District 47’s own Trevor Keegan is set to attend the biggest game of his life this weekend.
The District 47 alumnus, who attended Glacier Ridge Elementary and Bernotas Middle School, is a left guard (#79) for the Philadelphia Eagles who are in this year’s Super Bowl.
His journey to football’s grandest stage has been fueled by years of dedication, community support, and lifelong friendships formed in Crystal Lake.
For Trevor’s mother, Amanda Keegan, a nurse at West Elementary, the excitement is overwhelming.
“When we realized he was going to the Super Bowl, it may have been the most surreal moment of his football career,” she shared.
“Winning the National Championship with Michigan in 2023 was incredible, but going to the Super Bowl is what he has dreamed of since he was a little kid.”
Trevor’s football roots run deep in Crystal Lake.
He played youth football for the Crystal Lake Raiders during his elementary and middle school years, where he formed lasting friendships with teammates from across District 47.
“He was coached by several different volunteer coaches, most of whom had sons attending D47 schools,” Amanda recalled.
“Some of those coaches and kids have become our lifelong friends.”
Even as a young player, Trevor’s potential was undeniable.
“Trevor was one of the few very big kids in the area, and most dads and coaches knew him and would comment about him playing football for a very long time at the next level,” Amanda said.
His football journey continued at Crystal Lake South High School, where he played his senior year with many of the same teammates from his youth football days.
“It was the most amazing senior year of Friday Night Lights.”
After high school, Trevor went on to play for the University of Michigan, where he was embraced by the Crystal Lake community.
When Michigan won the National Championship in 2023, the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce proudly displayed, ‘Congratulations Trevor Keegan National Champion’ on its sign.
“Anytime we run into kids he played football with, they always ask how he’s doing and to tell him ‘Hi.’
Some of his elementary and middle school friends even traveled to Michigan to watch him play,” Amanda shared.
While Amanda has kept a relatively low profile, the news of Trevor’s accomplishment has spread quickly.
“I honestly don’t talk about it much, but once word started getting out, everyone was excited for us!” she said.
“One of the West Elementary teachers, Mrs. Stock, crocheted a ‘Swoop,’ the Eagles mascot, for me—it’s adorable.
‘
“Another teacher, Mrs. Walls, brought me Eagles cookies.
“Staff pop into my office asking about our plans, how we’re doing, and when we leave.
“The students seem excited too!
“Most are Bears fans or KC fans, but we have a handful of Eagles fans now.”
Adding to the excitement, the West Social Committee surprised Amanda this week by wearing green in support of her and her son as she prepares to leave for the Super Bowl.
Through it all, Trevor continues to represent his hometown with pride.
“I love the photo of him on one knee showing his tattoos—you can see the ‘815,’ always representing,” Amanda said.
This weekend, all eyes will be on the Super Bowl, but for District 47, one player will hold a special place in the hearts of many.
From Friday night lights to the biggest stage in football, Trevor Keegan’s journey is a testament to hard work, community, and the unwavering support of his hometown.
