99-Years Young Former State Rep. DeLoris Doederlein Honored at Kane County Republicans Lincoln Day Dinner Feb 8

DeLoris Doederlein (R, East Dundee) was recognized and addressed the packed event in Batavia last night.

On stage with Doederlein are Kane County Republican Party Chairman Andro Lerario (R, Campton Hills) and Executive Vice Chairman/ Secretary Pam Carr (R, West Dundee).

Keynote speaker last night was former Pima County (AZ) Sheriff Mark Lamb, who lost the 2024 U.S. Senate Republican primary to Kari Lake.

There was an excellent turnout.

The Doederleins first entered my life when Fred ran for State Rep. to replace Jack Hill, who died while riding his motorcycle at his nursery on Randall Road.

Running from McHenry County was Tom Davis.

Bruce Waddell from Dundee Township won the special election.

In 1972, I ran against two GOP incumbents, Waddell and Les Cunningham, with Democrat Tom Hanahan on the ballot.

Cunningham lost out.

Waddell died in 1979, being replace by Rick Burnidge.

When I decided to run for Congress in 1980, Jill Zwick and did Dick Klemm ran to replace me.

Both won, displacing Burnidge.

In 1988, Zwick stepped aside to allow her husband Mort to run.

DeLoris Doederlein also ran.

Both former State senator Jack Schaffer and I supported Doederlein in a district mailing.

Doederlein and Klemm won the Republican seats.

Seeing me in Springfield after the primary, Zwick said, “You guys really did a job on Mort.”

A significant vote by Doederlein was to oppose the Tax Increment Financing District for Sears in Hoffman Estates.

I was standing next to her on the House floor during the debate. She turned to me and asked, “My district wouldn’t want me to vote for this, would they?”

Based on having represented Dundee Township during the 1970’s, I agreed they would not.

District 300’s opposition to the TIF over the years proved her judgment correct.

Doederlein retired from the Illinois House in 1992.
