From an article by Tribune reporter and Mike Madigan biographer Ray Long:

“Former Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan’s $158,000 annual state of Illinois pension is being halted following his high-profile corruption conviction.”

That is what happens when a retired legislator is convicted of a felony.

The General Assembly Retirement System, the legislative pension system, is the worst funded one in state government.

Not having to pay Madigan will make it last a bit longer for the rest of us.

But, as this cartoon from Illinois Polilcy Institute cartoonist Eric Allie indicates, Madigan will not have to repay what he has received already.

And this month’s payment, due the 19th, has already been processed, so he will receive one last payment.
