From Woodstock author Richard Rostron:

Local author reaches milestone – 10 years daily exercise

Local author Rich Rostron, who has his two novels of historical fiction –

  • The Burning Sea of Iron Bottom Bay and
  • The Ghost of Lexington and Concord

(available in Read Between the Lynes, MD Trains, My Little Bow Peeps Shop and online at Amazon) reached a major milestone Tuesday, February 11.

On that day, Rostron hit 10 years of exercising every day.

“A little more than 10 years ago, it occurred to me, as I approached my 60s, that my health would be of increasing importance,” said Rostron.

“I made a decision to start working out.”

He first started working out 25-minutes a day in October of 2014.

But he caught the flu and his workouts were interrupted.

As he recovered, he decided he had to make a commitment to workout even if he was sick.

His workouts consist of stretching and jogging in the house every day. Every other day he uses dumbbells, too.

He admits he’s not competing for Mr. Universe but points out that’s really not the goal or the kind of working out that he does.

“A friend from high school, Alex Rothacker, who owns Topps Dog Training in Grayslake, told Rostron’s brother that, if someone wanted to get in shape, they should start doing one pushup a day for a month and two the next month. They should increase the number by one each month.”

Rostron gave it a try and was up to 62 pushups a day until he partially tore his rotator cuff while working at Papa John’s in McHenry.

“I haven’t gotten back to the pushups since then,” said Rostron. “I’ve still had some trouble with my shoulders.”

He said that one of the most tangible forms of evidence that his workouts are helping is his flexibility, which he credits to his stretching.

“I tell people about how long I’ve exercised as a way to hold myself accountable,” said Rostron. “I don’t want them to ask me how it’s going and to have to say I quit.”

I’ve read both books. Enjoyed both.
