From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District:

Fatal Crash on Route 14 West of Dean Street

On February 16, 2025, at 3:13 p.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment at Route 14 and Dean Street.

While en route, emergency crews were advised of a multi-vehicle collision, with reports of one vehicle possibly on fire and multiple individuals trapped.

Given the severity of the incident, the response was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing in additional resources from Crystal Lake, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry County Emergency Management Agency, and Wonder Lake to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews located the crash approximately a quarter mile west of the intersection.

They found a three-vehicle collision with two heavily damaged vehicles in the middle of the roadway.

Firefighters immediately began triaging multiple patients and initiating extrication efforts.

Both heavily damaged vehicles required extrication to remove the occupants.

A third vehicle, a Jeep, sustained minor damage after being struck during the crash; the driver of the Jeep was uninjured.

Emergency crews transported two adults to local hospitals, one with critical injuries.

Three juveniles also sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to Level 1 pediatric trauma centers.

Unfortunately, one adult was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In total, three medical helicopters responded to transport the critically injured juvenile patients.

One helicopter landed at the scene, while the other two initially landed at the helipads at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital before airlifting their patients to Level 1 trauma centers.

While Woodstock Fire/Rescue District personnel were committed to the incident, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, Hampshire Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and Nunda Rural Fire Protection District provided coverage for the district. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District appreciates the assistance of multiple agencies that responded to provide aid.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

Any additional questions regarding the investigation, including the cause, fault, seat belt use, and speeds, should be directed to their office.
