A column by Pat Hickey in John Kass news about his meeting Castro on his seventh birthday brought back a memory from my senior year at Crystal Lake Community High School (now renamed “Central”).

I was walking past the shop class and hear one of the guys bragging about how the White Sox were going to trounce the Dodgers in the World Series.
Having moved from New York State the year before and being a Dodgers I disagreed.
The kid asked, “Wanna bet?”
“Sure,” I replied, but realizing that he was a rabid White Sox fan, added, “But you’ll have to give me odds.”
We agree on 2-1 odds for $5.
Four games later, I pocketed ten dollars.
