From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue Protection District:

Firefighters Contain 10-Acre Prairie Fire Near Homes

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded at 3:10 p.m. to a reported controlled prairie burn that had spread out of control in the 1300 block of E. Longwood Drive in Woodstock.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and observed heavy fire rapidly moving across the property, driven by strong winds.

Several contracted workers were on scene attempting to control the fire when crews arrived.

Firefighters deployed two UTVs to initiate fire suppression efforts.

The fire spread across nearly 10 acres before crews successfully contained it.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from encroaching on several nearby homes, with flames coming within 50 feet of backdoors.

There were no reported injuries.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District reminds residents that on days like this, dry ground cover is extremely flammable and can cause fires to spread rapidly.

It is essential to exercise caution when conducting controlled burns, particularly in windy conditions, and to ensure access to adequate water supplies for fire containment.

Following local burning regulations and having a plan in place can help prevent dangerous situations.
