From the Kane County Republican Party:
Lies, Lies and More Lies: The Truth About Kane County’s Misleading Sales Tax Increase
Over the past week, we’ve received numerous calls from union members, their families, and local workers informing us that union leaders are going door-to-door and visiting businesses with a misleading message.
They claim that the proposed Kane County Retail Tax is meant to fund raises for workers.
But here’s the truth: this claim is completely false.

Union leaders are making these promises at locations that aren’t even funded by Kane County—places like KDOT, IDOT, and other municipalities that rely on state and federal funds.
Wait a minute—wasn’t this tax supposed to be about “safety” initiatives?
From the beginning, we have warned that the claim this tax is for “safety” is a lie.
Upon further investigation, we discovered that while these funds would be placed into a so-called “safety” account, they are not officially earmarked for any actual safety initiatives.
Instead, they will be funneled into a general fund that can be used for personal pet projects—including pay raises for Kane County Board members!
Shockingly, even judges have shown up at voter information sessions advocating for this tax.
Why?
Because they, too, have been promised raises if it passes.
Ask yourself: how many families are getting raises this year at the expense of Kane County taxpayers?
This isn’t just misleading—it’s outright unfair.
The reality is that the Kane County Board Chair is attempting to create a slush fund for herself, her political allies, and her pet projects. Instead of funding safety initiatives, this money will be spent on unnecessary programs like her “Climate Action Plan” and other wasteful ideas that struggling families simply can’t afford.
Since this is a sales tax increase, it will disproportionately hurt lower- and middle-income families, as well as small businesses.
Businesses will either have to absorb yet another tax burden or raise prices—meaning consumers will end up paying more so that a judge can get a raise.

Does that sound fair to you?
Don’t fall for the deception.
This tax will not give union workers a raise—though their white-collar bosses just might benefit.
This is a classic case of Chicago-style corruption creeping into Kane County.
With President Trump and Elon Musk launching their DOGE initiative to expose corruption, fraud and wasteful spending, maybe it’s time we get a DOGE investigation right here in Kane County to uncover where this money is really going. How deep does this corruption run?
We must take a stand. Vote ‘NO’ on this deceptive tax increase and make sure your friends and family do, too!
