“For the full background on this resolution please watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygAAneicwcc starting at minute 9,” suggests the Grafton GOP Committee. “You’ll see how a city government brags and doubles down on violating Federal law.”
Skip the beginning of the meeting and go right to the Trust Act discussion below:

Alderman Matthew Perkins asked at the beginning of consideration, “Are we going to be doing resolutions for every state law that Illinois passes from now on that we have to abide by?”
Mayor Michael Kelly explained that a County member had requested the resolution be placed on the agenda and he would do the same for any other similar request.
Alderwoman Lisa Halderlein, a former Democratic Party candidate for Congress against Republican Ray LaHood, said she asked for the resolution to be placed on the agenda. It was seconded by Alderwoman Lorena Lancaster.
Halderlein then offered clarification.
“More than 1400 undocumented migrants live in Harvard according to the last Census. That’s a significant amount of our population.
“Additionally, over 70% of the students in our schools are from immigrant families.
“I think as we have seen in the last week, even today in Crystal Lake there were raids in Crystal Lake businesses.”
“I think it’s not only important that we follow the state law, but that we in the City of Harvard, which is the only majority minority community in McHenry County that we send a message to our residents that this is the law and this is what we are following.
“We have had, as some may have seen, a County Sheriff who says he does not agree with the law and sort of sending a potential message to people that maybe this isn’t so important
“I think it is an important law,
“It was signed into law by Governor Bruce Rauner in 2017 affirming our residents, all residents that this is the law and we are in full compliance and will remain in full compliance in Harvard.
“I think it’s important and thank you for your consideration.”
