It’s pretty obvious that the floor of the jail built to house ICE detainees would be filled to capacity had not the Democrats in Springfield passed legislation prohibiting that use.
That makes it obvious that their goal of preventing the deportation of illegals has been successful–at least at this level.
Sheriff Robb Tadelman has searched for alternative revenue sources, finding Lake County as a major contributor.
Now, he comes to the County Board asking for permission to house forensic detainees from the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Mental Health.
$150 per day will be paid along with reimbursement for transportation and medical costs for a maximum of twelve male and female detainees, with the Sheriff reserving the right to refuse to accept any.
The proposed contract would last for over three years, ending on June 30, 2028, with three one-year options thereafter.
How is the term “forensic detainee” defined?
- UNFIT TO STAND TRIAL and
- NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY
and awaiting an inpatient admission to an IDHS forensic treatment program.
The contract further states, “…any psychiatric treatment, psychological care, and/or mental health treatment received by IDHS detainees will be contracted through an IDHS contracted provider and reimbursement for services will be paid to that provider by IDHS.”
The Sheriff’s Department will report “Any physical assault of one resident upon another involving a detainee under this Agreement any of said detainee’s assault upon an employee; the use of force by an employee of McHenry County upon said detainees; and any suicide attempt, escape or unauthorized absence, or death; any major property loss, damage from fire occasioned by said detainee and any action which could lead to criminal charges. The Sheriff of McHenry County shall immediately forward such reports to the Director of Forensic & Justice Services.”
