From Algonquin Police Chief Dennis W. Walker:

Inaugural Unified Police Academy

[Algonquin, IL] – The Algonquin Police Department, along with Special Olympics Illinois and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, is proud to host the Inaugural Unified Police Academy on Friday March 21st..

This academy is a one-day event during which local Special Olympics athletes will be sworn in as community cadets and work with local volunteers through several work stations at the Algonquin Police Department.

These work stations are similar to those that officers go through at their original police academies.

The athletes and volunteers will work together and learn skills to further community relationships between all parties involved.

The Unified Academy will start at the Algonquin Police Department and finish with a fun team-building event at Bowlero bowling alley in Algonquin.

The community partners include the Algonquin Rotary Club, the Algonquin Lions Club, Southeast
Emergency Communications (SEECOM) and the 100 Club of Illinois who all will be participating and experiencing the academy with our local athletes.

We look forward to a day of fun, learning, inclusion, and showcasing all of our abilities.
