From the campaign of Nunda Township Road Commissioner Mike Leverance:
Nunda Township Road Commissioner Reflects on 12 Years of Progress, Promises Continued Excellence
NUNDA TOWNSHIP, IL — As the election approaches, Nunda Township Road Commissioner ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance is proud to reflect on a decade of real progress that has transformed the community’s roads and infrastructure.

With 12 years of service and a proven track record, ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance is committed to finishing the job and continuing to serve the residents of Nunda Township with integrity, innovation, and fiscal responsibility.
“Over the past 12 years, I’ve made big promises to you, the residents of Nunda Township, and I’m proud to say I’ve delivered on every one of them,” said ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance.
“We’ve worked together to enhance our roads, improve drainage, and ensure safer, more efficient transportation for everyone. But the work is far from over.
I’m committed to finishing what we’ve started, and I need your vote to continue this important work.”
Key Accomplishments:
Road Resurfacing
Increased from ½ mile per year to 6-7 miles per year.
Significant progress has been made in resurfacing roads, improving the quality of life for all residents and making Nunda Township roads safer and more reliable.
Ditching, Curbs, and Storm Sewers
Increased from less than ¼ mile per year to 11-12 miles per year.
This significant increase reflects my ongoing commitment to enhancing drainage systems and infrastructure, which has been key in solving decades old flooding problems.
Culvert Replacement
Increased from 1-2 per year to nearly 100 per year.
This dramatic increase is a vital part of improving road safety and tackling costly flooding issues, helping to safeguard our community and infrastructure.
Snow & Ice Removal
Still the best in the county, now with 40% less salt usage.
Winter weather challenges are met with the most effective snow and ice removal system in the county, cutting salt usage and keeping roads safer.
Fiscal Responsibility
We’ve successfully reduced the tax levy by 5%, with no tax increases. Over the past 12 years, this reduction has saved taxpayers $167,000 annually, while maintaining exceptional services and road improvements. In total, this translates to over $2,000,000 saved in reduced taxes.
Sustainable Practices
Initiatives like recycling asphalt grindings, using donated topsoil, and now heating township buildings with waste oil donated by residents. This has reduced both heating costs and environmental impact, further enhancing sustainability while saving valuable resources.
Equipment Maintenance & Replacement
Transitioned from the previous practice of purchasing 1 new plow truck per year to rebuilding 1-2 plow trucks per year. By rebuilding trucks instead of buying new ones, we’ve saved $250,000 per vehicle, reinvesting those savings into road maintenance resulting in reduced costs for residents.
Regional Partnerships
In addition to maintaining our 100 miles (200 lane miles) of roads, we’ve actively supported neighboring communities with their road projects. In exchange, we’ve received compensation in the form of labor, machine time, or direct payment, which has helped strengthen regional partnerships and maximize resources for everyone involved..
“I’ve always worked hard to be a good steward of taxpayer money,” said ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance. “We’ve saved residents hundreds of thousands of dollars while ensuring that we deliver on our promise of safe, well-maintained roads.”
A Vision for the Future
As ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance enters the final phase of road improvements, nearly 75 miles of roads have already been completed, with only 25 miles left to improve. With the continued support of the community, ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance is dedicated to completing the road network and further strengthening Nunda Township’s infrastructure for generations to come.
“I’m excited about what we’ve accomplished together, but there’s still work to be done,” said ‘Iron Mike’ Lesperance. “I’m asking for your support to finish the job and to continue our tradition of excellence. Let’s keep moving forward together.”
