Vehicle vs. Building Crash

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 12:01 p.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue District responded to the 100 block of E. Washington Street in downtown Marengo for a reported vehicle crash.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and located a single-vehicle crash involving a car that had struck the storefront of a business, causing moderate damage to the building.

Although the call initially reported possible entrapment, crews determined there was no entrapment upon arrival.

The adult driver, the single occupant of the vehicle, was evaluated on scene by paramedics but declined further medical treatment.

The business was open at the time of the crash; fortunately, no injuries were reported inside.

The City of Marengo Building Department was requested to assess the damage to the storefront.

Fire crews confirmed there were no additional hazards present and cleared the scene by 12:45 p.m.

The Marengo Police Department is investigating the crash. Any questions regarding the cause, fault, seat-belt use, or other investigative matters should be directed to them.
