Fatal Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash Near Harvard

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 3:03 p.m., the Harvard Fire Protection District responded to the 24700 block of Route 173 in unincorporated Harvard for a reported motor vehicle crash.

Initial 911 calls indicated that a vehicle had rolled over and was lying on its roof, with an occupant potentially trapped inside.

First responders arrived on scene shortly after and found a single vehicle with heavy damage, overturned approximately 75 feet off the roadway in a field.

Paramedics located the adult male driver still inside the vehicle.

He was the only occupant and had sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The roadway was closed in both directions for several hours and was reopened around 7:45 p.m.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash. Any additional questions regarding the investigation, including the cause of the crash, seat belt use, and speed, should be directed to their offices.
